Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Newport 309 - First home :) 501Mar 03, 2016 6:30 am Thank Jill sorry I never wrote back thought I did. Been a bit quiet on here but following every bodies thread when new updates pop up about your houses Not much has been happening at ours except there is now a creek in a tile in our upstairs ensuite so not sure who to contact from Fairhaven for that and we've got 3 long cracks in our driveway that the concreter said he'd come look at & hasn't it's been a few months now very upsetting. Nothing done with the garden yet as I've found out I have to have 3 wisdom teeth out so saving for that ahhhhh! Re: Newport 309 - First home :) 502Mar 03, 2016 6:33 am Hey Simone! The joys of building!! We have had a leak in our front garden for a while and there has been so much too- ing and fro- ing between the builder and SE Water. Finally it's getting towards the end and the plumber is coming out to check it. Then only can we start our front landscaping. It's been a long journey. All the best with the wisdom teeth Re: Newport 309 - First home :) 503Mar 03, 2016 6:58 am Oh yes it doesn't end even after its built hey, good luck with the leak Re: Newport 309 - First home :) 505Apr 04, 2016 8:19 am Hey sapphire!! We're building the Newport in clarinda park (right next door) and have been following your thread! Er have also chosen to split the kitchen and create an island! How do you find it? We currently have an almost 3m island in our home and are a little concerned about it only being 1.8m! Do you find it small? Or enough bench space? Re: Newport 309 - First home :) 506Apr 04, 2016 9:43 am Hi Kat, Oh how exciting can't wait for the estates to be finished and the shops to be built & dog park I do find it not much space compared to other people's kitchens however we have a lot of appliances on ours on the window side so if we didn't we would have much more bench space. I find on the island to the right we have enough space of bench top for a chopping board, then around the front we have candles(would have liked to extend the width of the bench as we aren't sure how it's going to be with stools under it) & on the left side there is a bit of space for dishes or miscellaneous items. However we did extend the island so reach out the same distance as the wall of the fridge not sure if you have added that on or not. What size Newport are you building & what stage are you up too? Re: Newport 309 - First home :) 507Apr 05, 2016 10:26 am Heya!! Yeah we actually built our first home in stage one of ambrosia so we are pretty excited for all of this area to be finished too! It's been a long wait haha. We're building the 361 and will be stage 6 of clarinda which is expected to title in June, hopefully they're not too delayed as we just sold out house and will need to rent in the build time ? We're still trying to work with the floorplan. Our poor lady at fairhaven has me making changes every second day but I think we're almost there. If I can work out how I'll upload a photo of the downstairs and the changes we've made to the kitchen ? Re: Newport 309 - First home :) 508Apr 05, 2016 10:37 am Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Ok so this is the kitchen. We've done the same with the island but extended the bench round to the pantry too. Will extend the actual island out to 1000 rather than 800 and will get a built in sink so won't have the silver sink over the dishwasher area. It seems like such a silly design to have a possibly 6 bedroom home and make the kitchen small and the extended kitchen option did not sell me!! How's the walk in pantry? Is it a good size? Both the displays now have the extended kitchen option which looses the pantry Re: Newport 309 - First home :) 509Apr 05, 2016 11:12 am Looks like it'll look great , I did think about extending the bench around to the pantry but didn't know how it would look. Can't wait to see yours when it's done I find the walk in pantry a great size with 3 separate shelves built in, we have enough room in it for or groceries, water slabs & big dog food tub. I'd eventually like a built in sink too. What model did you build in ambrosia? Hopefully they title in June they seem to be going pretty quick road wise & everything in Clarinda. lol don't worry we changed a bit with our Fairhaven lady and she was great about it. Did you make any changes to the ensuite? Can't remember what it was like in the 361. I do definitely agree though for a 6 or even 4 bedroom home like ours the kitchen should be bigger. Re: Newport 309 - First home :) 510Apr 05, 2016 11:35 am The kitchen is actually taken from the Iluka house.. The Iluka kitchen is slightly bigger but looks like this Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We changed some stuff upstairs but not the ensuite. Just made the back 3 bedrooms into 2 and gave them both walk in robes and put a door on the open study. Went for the master with a 2nd WIR too (the one on display in clarinda) I do love your bath in the ensuite though! Looks amazing I'm really nervous about the kitchen as we have a massive bench now and worry about the size. We built with Henley last time and got a nice little 19 square home... Since then 2 kids have taken over and we have no room to move haha We also changed the stairs to side entry so you walk in to a wall not the staircase Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I was hoping fairhaven would let us stroll through their selection centre prior to colours but that seems to be a Henley thing. The girl from fairhaven was so confused when I asked haha Re: Newport 309 - First home :) 511Apr 05, 2016 11:46 am They sound like good changes , the door on the study is smart as I thought it was a little to open in the display. I think the kitchen will come out great especially if it's similar to that photo. Definitely worth it to add the 2nd WIR to the master I'm so glad we did it as t would have been wasted space otherwise and our room is still large with it. Haha oh thanks it is a beautiful bath I wish they had more choices when we had to do selections for it though. We never even thought about the staircase like that that would have been a good change, will have to wait and see yours now. Yeah FH does do things a little different I think lol You won't know yourself going from 19 sq to how many the 361 is Re: Newport 309 - First home :) 512Apr 05, 2016 4:10 pm The stairs are on display in the Newport in the north which is the only reason we even thought about it. I love that they hide the stairs but they make the entry more closed in and it'll be interesting getting the furniture up the stairs haha Def going to be a big change going to 37 squares, it's basically double the size, not looking forward to the next 8-10 months of renting though! I don't know why they wouldn't offer the 309 anymore! It seems like such a great layout and size! Re: Newport 309 - First home :) 513Apr 05, 2016 4:54 pm Haha you should have seen the delivery guys faces when they realised they had to take our couch up stairs they were lucky it was brand new in boxes. But yeah getting king size bed upstairs was not easy for the hubby & I. Good luck Renting would suck but at least you've got something to look forward to during that time. I definitely agree lucky we had been looking at the Newport for like 1-2 years before we actually built so we had the original brochures with the 309 in it and they honoured it still even though the new brochures didn't have it. It's crazy that they have taken it out though as the 361 was too much space for us & I think it'd be the same for other people that want a layout right in the middle of all of them. Re: Newport 309 - First home :) 515May 04, 2017 3:59 pm Hey Kat, They did fix it after I complained again so they carpet layer had to pull up the carpet and the tradies had to screw some screws into the wood where it was creaking. It worked however still over 2 years on and they are still coming back to fix things. Hopefully they can come fix your creak. Had already discussed it with the ss and he was going to fix before the carpet went down but a bit late now and the carpet has made it worse not better 😣 Re: Newport 309 - First home :) 517May 04, 2017 8:48 pm Kat_1025 [[Sapphire]] Hey Kat, They did fix it after I complained again so they carpet layer had to pull up the carpet and the tradies had to screw some screws into the wood where it was creaking. I think they just push ahead to finish everything and hope you forget. They should fix it before the carpet it sucks when I they rip it up because the joins are so much more noticeable when they put it back down. Let me know how you go So it looks like we finally have some movement on site! Definitely later than expected, but I'll take any progress at this point.
