Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 13, 2014 3:01 pm So I just found out from our building company that our house will not be completed until about April/May 2015 - 22 months from the date we signed the contract and 12months after siteworks were completed. I just want to cry now that I have added up how much my mortgage is going to cost me for another 6mths I probably cant mention the company but has anyone else had an experience like this? Re: So devastated, just found out rough completion date 2Oct 13, 2014 3:05 pm When you say "after siteworks were completed", what do you mean exactly? Were these things which were needed so the builder can start? 'Cos about a year to build a house doesn't seem unusual at all. Re: So devastated, just found out rough completion date 3Oct 13, 2014 3:10 pm I think a year from site works seems quite a lot. Are you building a double storey? What does your contract say, are you entitled to any liquidated damages if they go over their build time? My build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68002 Re: So devastated, just found out rough completion date 4Oct 13, 2014 3:15 pm wow that is a long time! isn't a standard build about 6 months? what stage is your house at now? Re: So devastated, just found out rough completion date 5Oct 13, 2014 3:26 pm We are still not in two years from signing up and fourteen months since our slab went down. The other thing you need to consider is when they say it is expected to be completed doesnt alow for any big stuff ups. We had a room built wrong. It added at least a month to the house. Once they have to stop and reschedule things it all goes out the window Re: So devastated, just found out rough completion date 6Oct 13, 2014 3:26 pm 2-cupcakes-pls wow that is a long time! isn't a standard build about 6 months? Our contract is 40 weeks, and I surprised our admin person by pointing that out 'cos most of theirs are apparently now 45 weeks. Christmas means 48 weeks, which only leaves you 4 weeks for bad weather ... Re: So devastated, just found out rough completion date 7Oct 13, 2014 4:05 pm Just a single story 4x2 nothing unusual. We had major administration delays due to their incompetency. And major delays finding a brickie. We are now at plate high. But still another 6- 7mths away from completion apparently. Sadly we went into our contract blindly and they have 300 working days to complete from the start of works. Re: So devastated, just found out rough completion date 8Oct 13, 2014 6:26 pm why so long, are they doing your flooring and curtains? my friend built with your builder and hers took 6 months from bricks starting and told her it would of been completed a month sooner if they didnt do the painting and flooring etc. is this what your CA told you (im worried about mine now). Re: So devastated, just found out rough completion date 9Oct 13, 2014 9:39 pm dannislade are they doing your flooring and curtains? my friend built with your builder and hers took 6 months from bricks starting and told her it would of been completed a month sooner if they didnt do the painting and flooring etc. Whilst thats entirely possible, the way my build has panned out painting and flooring added no more than two weeks to the build. Painting was Monday to Saturday, the following week saw our lighting installed, aircon vents fitted, towel rails etc go (Monday to Wednesday), then on the Thursday the floor boards went down, and Friday saw the carpets go in. Re: So devastated, just found out rough completion date 10Oct 13, 2014 11:06 pm Sorry to hear that, but I think you'll find many people on here who have a good build around "8 months in construction" at the moment and maybe longer is average, with trade shortages bricks in particular in WA. I'm not sure where you're building though. Hope they pull finger and get it done quicker for you. Re: So devastated, just found out rough completion date 11Oct 13, 2014 11:57 pm Yep I'm in the same boat, and will likely go over the contract time. Site works and slab have been down for over 9 months and probably still a few more months to go. I understand what you mean, it is devastating - I guess at least you have been given a good indication and you can "plan" for it... We have been kept in the dark for the entire build!
