Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 08, 2014 11:44 pm G'day to all those building in Jane brook and congrats to those already settled. We've been meaning to post on here for ages and have finally got round to it. So here is a quick run down of our journey to date. Finally chose Aveling as our builder and signed up around the end of August 2013 from shortlist of 3 after many weeks of research and display homes. What finally decided it for us was initial plans were as close to what we wanted as possible and there were no hidden surprises waiting for us at pre-start as we had visited all those on our shortlist. (certainly an eye opener seeing some of the 'standard' items that you get from some builders!) Also we can't thank and praise Grant Allen at the Aveling Whiteman park display enough for his knowledge, professionalism and patience! He brought our build into budget with clever design and not allowing us to over-build, thanks to him we were able to make 51 changes to the original design with minimal spending. Thanks to Aveling's office staff moving swiftly with paperwork we were able to do our pre-start in mid October and after delays with land release we had our slab down 2 weeks after final sign off.Although we got off to a good start like many others we had delays along the way which included Brickies and other contractors and considering that Aveling haven't had to do internal painting of walls, carpets, main floor tiling or air con the last couple of months seems to have seen very little activity happening. First inspection was positive and the building inspector we used was positive in his report and commented that we only had minor issues compared with some buildings he's had to deal with. (knocks and scrapes and poor finishing in places). That aside the journey has been relatively pain free and apart from one minor gripe that we have (I will reveal this after handover if I don't get a satisfactory answer) I would recommend Aveling and build with them again. Final inspection Friday 10/10 then key handover...whoohoo!! Photo album below. Click arrow on the left for correct order.. I've been searching for someone with similar build (we're building The Vale S2) and here you guys are! Great looking house well done! Could you pls tell me the colour of your roof, gutters, render etc because I'm really having doubts about my colour choices and I think we have the same coloured roof. We have an Aniseed roof, we're pretty sure that color of gutters and fascias is Deep Ocean from Colorbond, the walls were done in Turkish Coffee and Thredbo Snow, we still have to finish the Portico Blade wall, watch this space. Hope this helps. We've been to the Vale a fair bit now, it was the inspiration for our design, its a fantastic home, you'll be very happy with it. We have a friend building at Exuis Lake the Vines, we'll have a sticky beak on you block when he shows us how his is going Try not to despair too much if nothing happens for awhile, there's a huge shortage of tradies again, we had about 3weeks added to our build at the end and a total build approx 32weeks.
