Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 26, 2014 2:54 pm Hi guys, This is going to be our first build and we have found a home that we liked so much and had made some changes to the existing floor plan to suit our needs..Because of our positioning, laundry and the theater room share a narrow passage to get to them and am not liking that very much. There is an option to include cavity sliding doors for the theatre from the meals but i would still have the narrow passage to the laundry. Just want to see if anyone has any ideas around this predicament we are having. Thanks in advance.. That really is just me though! I adore open plan living and would have to be starting at that wall in my kitchen with my family in the other room. but of course I cant see whats going on upstairs so that doesn't help either. I would definitely go for some double cavity sliders on that wall (maybe even glazed) just to give the room a bit more depth. Re: Help - Ideas around Laundry and Theatre room 3Sep 26, 2014 3:05 pm IMO, That theatre is just killing the back half of your house. I get that you want it to be isolated, but it looks like someone's just plonked a room into an otherwise gorgeous open plan living area. Where is north? Re: Help - Ideas around Laundry and Theatre room 4Sep 26, 2014 3:05 pm If it was me, I would put the cavity sliders in from the meals and turn that corner space into a bar area. My OH always wanted that in our theatre but we didn't have the space to do it. I like where the laundry is, out of the way. Nobody really wants to see a laundry anyway! Good luck, looking at plans was one of the most difficult decisions for me! HAHA I giggled as I read this, if you check out my floor plan - our theatre is actually literally just going to be a bar with a couch in it Re: Help - Ideas around Laundry and Theatre room 6Sep 26, 2014 3:14 pm LaceyM Kelsey78 If it was me, I would put the cavity sliders in from the meals and turn that corner space into a bar area. Don't using cavity doors for it, bear with the little corridor down to it and your laundry, as it will aid in sound isolation to a certain degree. Not a big fan of the large window on the side of it though, and would be trying to get rid of it if possible or reduce the size of it. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: Help - Ideas around Laundry and Theatre room 10Sep 27, 2014 8:08 am Why don't you wall off the rumpus room instead & have that as the theatre & open up the rest of the room? Re: Help - Ideas around Laundry and Theatre room 11Sep 27, 2014 10:30 am As mentioned i would probably wall off the rumpus. But if you really want a separate theater, you could also look at having the laundry open to the garage, like below. Alkira homes - Elyse15 Re: Help - Ideas around Laundry and Theatre room 13Sep 29, 2014 10:07 am Firstly I am a huge Theater fan so put me with your Hubby. Haters say huge waste of space - meh. Ok why not switch the rumpus room and theater. Not sure how far back you can go but I would increase the depth of the Alfresco and what is now the Alfresco. This would give a nice open space and balance things out. Remove the big slider from the rumpus room/ alfresco and that could be a great spot to set up your BBQ drinks etc. and also removed the big window. At the back swap over to a single window and make it what ever is the minimum size for compliance. I would not put the door in the corner because that will limit certain choices. Normally there is a gap between screen and speakers and the first row of seats. That is where I would position the door. Hope this makes sense. It does in my mind..... Cheers Mark Re: Help - Ideas around Laundry and Theatre room 14Sep 29, 2014 10:57 am This x2, what an awesome solution ! Re: Help - Ideas around Laundry and Theatre room 15Sep 29, 2014 11:14 am Thanks AussieMark.. Would think through your suggestion. Unfortunately can't go beyond the length due to a lot of price change between the size variations from the builder's and also due to the limitations of our block. Alkira homes - Elyse15 Re: Help - Ideas around Laundry and Theatre room 16Sep 29, 2014 11:24 am Raina, understand that. how deep is the rumpus presently as it still my be a solution. BTW I would not put the entry to the laundry solely to the Garage, I could be wrong but I do not thing it is wise as most people will not want to walk through a garage to get to the laundry. If the theater and rumpus are swapped you will also more than likely save as the sliding door should be more ex than the brick wall. Re: Help - Ideas around Laundry and Theatre room 18Sep 29, 2014 2:34 pm Thanks everyone.. i will tell the guys to change over the rumpus and theatre and see how we go with the design aussie mark - the alfresco is 3mtrs in depth. t Alkira homes - Elyse15 If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8306 Grab a hose, insert it at the top of the inlet/down pipe and turn the water on and see where the water is escaping from.
