Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 06, 2008 11:10 pm I’ve bought a new land in Canberra. I'm originally from Melbourne.
Melbourne builders have huge variety as compared to Canberra and Canberra's builders are very expensive then Melbourne. Please advice any Good Canberra Builder name who will deliver good quality Like Porter Davis in Melbourne? I’d been to Harrison Display Village. They don’t have much variety and they are expensive as compare to Melbourne. Please advice Re: Any good builder in Canberra? 2Jun 07, 2008 9:07 am Hi Simpson
I would have to totally agree with you. Having recently moved from Wollongong, we purchased land in Forde and started looking at builders to build with. 1. Prices are expensive, due to higher incomes in Canberra. 2. Labour shortage, wait till you find a builder and try to get a start date. 3. No competion, very limited builders to choose from. 4. Go with a architect we are ,use them to do your design and they will help on plenty of decent small guys they use regularly. Hope your searching is fruitful Cheers Michael pm if you like He wants a dream home theatre - she wants a dream kitchen! Re: Any good builder in Canberra? 3Jun 07, 2008 10:22 am Check out Regal Homes. They have been around for about 30 years building in the ACT and NSW. They have an extremely good team and an excellent reputation for their high quality standards.

Good luck with your search Cheers Michael He wants a dream home theatre - she wants a dream kitchen! Re: Any good builder in Canberra? 8Jul 02, 2008 8:29 pm We have built in Canberra, will PM details to anyone who wants more info on the builder. We have a beautiful home and were quite happy with the process.
Be careful when considering cheaper builders...what you think you would be saving might be lost in interest payments while waiting for a start/finish date! And yes, Canberra builders are more expensive than other states. So, when comparing prices, compare amongst Canberra builders only. Cheers. Re: Any good builder in Canberra? 10Jul 04, 2008 1:13 am Hi Simpson, have you tried Classics - we are building with them and so far so good - but only very early days! 'We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.' - Winston Churchill Re: Any good builder in Canberra? 12Jul 04, 2008 11:41 pm Lol, yeah not the cheapest but we decided to go for smaller and good quality rather than larger and cheaper - a personal choice. Plus they do have good quality inclusions so our upgrade costs have been small compared to some I have seen on this site.
Unfortunately, the ACT is just an expensive place to build (and live) - might be time for a change of local government! 'We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.' - Winston Churchill house building 13Jul 05, 2008 6:24 am Canberrans
What premium do you think we pay to build in the ACT over other areas around the country? Roughly guessing 15%....more? Building a second storey adds around 20% I have been informed do people agree with that. Friends who just built in Woonona north of Wollongong paid $220,000.00 for a 28sq 4 bed double garage single level house with everything they wanted. Base price $150,000( cannot remember comp maybe Claredon) hard pressed to get one in Canberra at that price. Paul If a new gov will make my house cheaper i will be voting for them. I agree wholeheartedly re the 15% premium to build in the ACT. As for the change of government comment that was more of a throwaway comment borne of frustration with the generally higher cost of living in Canberra than a genuine political comment I don't know if govt policy has had anything to do with the inflated building prices but, until recently, they have certainly created an artificial shortage of land supply which has forced up the land prices! Unlike most capital cities Canberra has an abundance of land supply yet we are paying Sydney like prices 'We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.' - Winston Churchill Re: Any good builder in Canberra? 15Jul 05, 2008 1:38 pm Totally agree about land prices being high Paul but that is something I have control over, I decide how much i want to pay for a little piece of Oz.
The price we paid in Forde was a touch high but as you said in a earlier post it will be a great place to raise a family. But the base price of housing in the ACT has me a little ( how do I say p####d) as my previous post highlighted.Spoke to a few building comp in Sydney and they were tossing up with the idea of expanding into Canberra told them if the Sydney prices applied down here i would sign up now.She replied we have around 6 parties interested to go now, but they are around 12 months away from getting down here. Rant over sorry. Cheers Michael He wants a dream home theatre - she wants a dream kitchen! Re: Any good builder in Canberra? 16Jul 05, 2008 1:57 pm No need to apologise for the rant - understood.
Good luck with the Sydney builder as the introduction of some external competition will not only benefit you but everyone who has yet to build down here (too late for us ) You might want to pm simpson the name of the building company as the more interested parties they have on their list the more motivated they will be to come sooner and thus line up with your release date 'We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.' - Winston Churchill Wow I hadn't realised things had gotten that pricey in just a couple of years since I built, that is crazy with how much land is now costing if you aren't lucky enough to… 3 7112 Thank you so much. This has been very helpful. We definitely wish to settle and get these people out of our life. They are trying to charge us interest on late… 7 14262 It is in lake macquarie area and dimensions are width 14 m and depth 8 m and the slope is 1/5 going down from the road. 1 7088 |
