Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 361Jun 28, 2015 3:53 pm Paid a visit this morning and was glad to see that it's possible to have a nice sunny winters day in Meadows! Was lovely out in the sun, still a bit fresh in the shade though! We checked our our block (not that exciting yet but at least something is happening!) and went for a stroll around the development. Was really disappointed to see someone had left a disgusting mess on the barbeques though, and lots of rubbish, knives (?) and a broken bottle.... yuck! Sucked more because we had some friends with us who we are trying to convince to come down and it wasn't the nicest thing to see! Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 362Jul 06, 2015 11:40 am That's awful- hopefully it was a one off incident and not a regular occurance. We got the call this morning- it's been released to construction! Hoping the contractors aren't busy and start this week haha Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 363Jul 07, 2015 8:43 am Yes hopefully Jakki! It was gross We visited our block again yesterday and it's slowly getting prepped for slab Hubby kept saying he is 'concerned' about the retaining though - they have built up on right of our house really high! So that's a big retaining wall, and will need council approval etc Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 364Jul 10, 2015 7:28 pm Just saw this! Yes they have haven't they. We are thinking if doing a 'hill' instead of retaining - fingers crossed Anyone got much happening? We were told today we have to excavate for the tanks and prep the tank site by this coming Wednesday! Brett's away until Monday and I can't find anyone to do it over the weekend. But scary. Ours was released Friday, contractors ordered Monday, site cut Wednesday, sand Thursday and footings cut today! :0 Can't believe it! Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 366Jul 10, 2015 7:39 pm We went up for a look today, lots of activity!! We've just been told we need a split in our house, so trying to work through that in our heads selections in a few weeks, so many decisions! Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 367Jul 11, 2015 10:50 pm Must be great having it moving along nicely Treechange! How long is their estimated build time? Shell01- which block are you? Bit of a spanner in the works! Is your chosen design easy to modify? Apparently meadows has 26mm of rain by 9am this morning and was meant to be 7 degrees today! We had a terrible day today, we had to make the horrible decision to put our dog to sleep. She was 12 (border collie) and still acted like a puppy until 3 days ago. Hubby is away so it's been extra tough. She was very much my dog. Our 10yr old is a mess- she's never known life without her and they were very close. All the crappy stuff happens when hubby is away Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 368Jul 11, 2015 11:01 pm Oh you poor thing! I can't even imagine, doesn't matter the age so hard to loose a fur family member. We are 70, yes HUGE spanner and a rather annoying one at that! But seems so far modifying the plan has been easy enough Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 369Jul 12, 2015 6:40 am Oh no Jakki! So sorry to hear about your dog They are so much part of the family. Hugs for you and your girls ️ Shell - that's a bit crap you only found out now that you need to do split level, does that cost you extra? Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 370Jul 12, 2015 6:42 am Our build - I'm a bit peeved at our builder to be honest. I got an email from the lady who oversees/updates us on our build (she's in QLD) and they've given us an estimated finish date of sometime in Jan. we were really hope they'd be done before Christmas as hubby is a teacher and will have 6 weeks off. Apparently we got the wrong idea when we signed up - there was a guaranteed 18 week build time that was used to sell us the package. Now that we're into the build we find out its a '130 WORKING days' guarantee, which with the Christmas break takes us to Jan next year I'm not even going to hope that it will get done quicker than what they say cos I know that never happens with builds! So looks like you will be in MUCH earlier than us Jakki... Hopefully we can still work together to get some things done :/ How did you go with sorting out the tanks? Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 371Jul 12, 2015 7:43 am Oh Jakki so sorry to hear that's awful. Especially with your husband away. They've said 155 days on the contract so we were hoping before Xmas but now that I read Mahalia says working days I'm not sure... All it said in our contract was length til completion 155 days. We didn't get up there yesterday but are going this morning. Shell that's really frustrating! We looked at a split which was only going to be the garage & was $15k but was then quoted $28k in retaining. Since having the block but we've spoken to the guy who removed our soil & he's quoted $10k in retaining. So confusing! Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 372Jul 12, 2015 10:15 am Yes, it's extra at least $15k though we don't have a final figure yet so god knows what it will blow out to! Had a discussion with the builder as to why this was discovered after the master plans had been drawn and signed...Seems stupid to be drawing plans before getting an engineering report. How annoying that you won't be in before the holidays! Feels like you get all the warm fuzzy information when your signing up, only to be followed with a tonne of bad news until your done fingers crossed for things to run smoothly for everyone. Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 373Jul 12, 2015 12:23 pm Thanks, it's horrible. Charlotte is still a mess today (she's 10) as she has had Heidi everyday if her life. They were best buddies. Brett gets home at 3am in he morning and has to deal with so much. He has mon, tues and wed to excavate and prep the tank pad and he also has to pick Heidi up from the vet and bury her. Charlotte and I don't want to see her again. It's too hard. We couldn't get a driver over the weekend so it's up to the 2 of is this week! Sucks as I won't be able to take the girls anywhere and do anything fun :/ a little warning would have been nice. Mahalia that sucks!!! Our contract says it could be 33 weeks but they keep telling us it will be about 3 months as they have so many up there. Yours will be quality! See that one down the road from Treechange on the corner hasn't moved very fast and I'm sure that's the same builder as you. How frustrating. Not to mention the extra cost of paying a loan and rent for that long. Shell01 that is terrible. What a massive cost to add on :/ I hate that the salesman spin a heap of bull to get us to sign up and none of it turns out to be true. The same builder you are using Mahalia tried to force us to sign with them. We were told they included everything- tanks, fencing, retaining, paving, driveway, flooring throughout etc etc. Oh and all the footings. He used to call and try and push me into signing with him all the time. Drove me crazy. Not sure of his name but he was out north somewhere Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 374Jul 12, 2015 3:33 pm Jakki so sad to read about your dog but just knowing you gave her a good life and she was loved can sometimes help with the pain. Hope your little girl gets over her sadness soon.. Thanks everyone for posting the different ways your builders are quoting build times as we are seeing our builder tomorrow to sign the final contracts, providing the footing haven't blown the costs sky high, and we have been told 6 months or 7 if we go over Christmas, which we will, but no clarification if this is working days or calendar months but will now ask. These build quotes make a huge difference to the costs because of rent etc. Keeping our fingers crossed for a reasonable price tomorrow. Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 376Jul 14, 2015 7:57 am That's great Vogue! When will you put your house on the market? Good luck with it all! Hope you guys are going okay Jakki, must be so hard when things like this happen and hubby is away So when do the tanks have to be in by? What do you mean about not getting a driver? Yeah I'm pretty disappointed but hey, what can you do? Just sucks that it will cost us more in rent I thought our builder would want to get it done a bit quicker... Wow, that's some bull you got spun! We got tanks, maybe some retaining (it says the builder has to do retaining 'necessary for the physical construction of the dwelling'), paving at the front of house, driveway, 2.7m ceilings and flooring throughout. The main attraction to their packages was the plan and the fact that it was a fixed price so no nasty surprises! Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 377Jul 14, 2015 1:14 pm That's great news vogue. Hopefully these houses get built faster and the builders are just giving worst case scenario. Doing ok, have to bury her today. Brett is doing that as I can't bring myself to do it. Oh I couldn't get someone to operate the excavator over the weekend so now we are up there everyday in the rain trying to get it finished by tomorrow (our deadline). Tanks arrive next week maybe. Builder isn't happy we couldn't get it excavated AND order and have tanks delivered by tomorrow *eye roll*. Some notice would have been nice. We got our toilet this morning! Our plumbing was done today (and yours Mahalia), I think our steel tomorrow and footings poured thursday Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 378Jul 14, 2015 1:23 pm Hope the burial goes okay Jakki, thinking of you all! That's terrible that you have to organise the tanks in this weather! Crazy that no one told you that it would have to be done at this point, I would have had no idea!! Yay for the toilet! I'm stall dirty that they are waiting so long to pour our slap - pretty sure your build is going to skyrocket ahead of ours very quickly! Good luck with getting it done - we would have offered to help (as hubby is on holidays) but we are going to stay at a friends farm today and tomorrow. Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 379Jul 14, 2015 2:48 pm That's not good Jakki having to work out in this terrible weather and you just wait and see but I think you will find that if it continues with rain for the rest of the week your builder won't do anything until it fines up a bit and what is their big rush to have the tanks in now? We hope to have our house on the market by mid Aug and currently most around here are selling quickly so once again fingers crossed ours will too. Builders don't care what extra expenses we all have outside of the build and the impact it has on us they are a law unto themselves, but hope fully Mahalia once the fine weather starts it will race ahead and you won't be too much longer renting.. Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 380Jul 14, 2015 3:37 pm Our your mini break sounds amazing!! If we didn't have the tanks done by tomorrow then we aren't able to have then done until after handover which means we wouldn't have any water. Very frustrating. Those mini excavators are pretty useless too- it's taking forever. Yeah I know, hopefully it fines up as our footings are full of water at the moment. Mahalia - I'm sure yours will be better quality than ours. It appears they will do your concrete this week I would think. Will be interesting watching the progress and how the builders compare for time and quality I think. Yeah I thought it all sounded too good to be true lol! Wish you all the best. Once you signed the contract, they will find millions excuses to charge you. And have seen their sites unfinished for a long time. 4 24716 As title suggests, looking at using the interlocking Pentablock stacked stone products to replace failing timber retaining… 0 17785 I am building in claymore NSW and this is shown in the building envelope plan. … 0 9969 |
