Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 61Mar 19, 2015 8:54 pm Hi everyone! We were at Meadows today there's no bitumen yet (but the equipment is there ready to go) but we now have footpaths so we are slowly getting there. JakkiT as for engineers we believe ours is due to go there in 3 to 4 weeks time, then we can start getting things rolling hopefully. Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 62Mar 20, 2015 11:21 am Great that the paths are in! Statesman emailed me back this morning and said the engineer report will be done once the land is ready in April. They keep changing their minds. Their original and another email both say once the road and kerbing is in the engineer will go out there. Now it seems they wont until after settlement. Extremely frustrating. Especially that they don't stick to what they say. I'm hoping we get a miracle and the engineers report is less than 4 weeks, then our selections appt can happen straight away-hoping there isn't a long wait, then hopefully council is a bit faster than the 12 weeks. Every week faster is alot better for us in more ways than one. Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 63Mar 21, 2015 9:01 am Woohoo for footpaths! Getting close now We get to go and do our selections in the next couple of weeks! I still don't feel ready to make decisions even though we've had so long to prepare! Heading to Direct Interiors (bathroom/kitchen supplier) and Beaumont Tiles this weekend to get some ideas.... Devine standard inclusions actually seem pretty good so fingers crossed we won't need lots of upgrades! So annoying that Statesman keep changing their story Jakki - hopefully it all happens quickly for you guys. Do you go to a showroom to do your selections all together or shop around at different suppliers? Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 64Mar 21, 2015 10:30 am Oooo lucky you! We arent allowed to do our selections until the engineers report is back :/ I'm dying to do it lol! What colours/style do you think you are going for? We are having spotted gum karndean vinyl planks then 'soot' (charcoal) carpet in bedrooms, toy room and sep lounge. White kitchen. I'm having trouble deciding on the bathrooms, and then also the laundry floor as we are tiling the splashback in there ourselves once we add overhead cupboards. I cant decide if i want white or grey floors in the bathrooms, if i want them the same in both or different. Can't decide on benchtops. I thin i'm going for subway tile in the ensuite but not sure if i want grey or white lol. I'm trying to be brave and not just do everything white but it's hard-I'm worried I wont like it. I don't like the real modern style, are you on pinterest? I like this kind of style https://www.pinterest.com/jakkim/house-plans/ We have a display centre to go to, but it's very tiny and cramped. We can see the tiles at beaumonts I think and routleys and caroma are other suppliers so we can get anything we want from them but they have to work out a price. I want a white ceramic sink but routleys dont have them in our budget (theirs is $2300) so we have to get that done after handover, which also mans paying for an uprgade to smaller sink so the bench isn't cut too big for the sink we want. Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 65Mar 21, 2015 11:54 am Oooooh, I love so many of your pins! Mine is a bit scarce but this is it - https://www.pinterest.com/mahalia27/ Will def sit down with a coffee sometime and pinch some of yours, it looks like we have very similar taste! And did I see you are having a sewing room? Snap! I might start a thread for our build on here once we've done selections to try and keep track of everything.... We will be going for white kitchen also - I love light and bright spaces but may have some marbling through the benchtop to break it up a bit. I figure at least with white spaces you can decorate with furnishings and décor (which is a lot easier to update!). I don't think I'm very brave with things like that either! I can't remember what our floorboards are called but I'll have a look later as I've saved it on the PC. We want to put a bench/cupboard in our laundry also - do you know where you might get yours from? I also want cabinetry in the sewing room/study too. The one thing I don't like that's the Devine standard is the vanity/sink so we are hoping to upgrade that without TOO much extra cost - guess we will find out soon! $2300 seems a HUGE amount :/ Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 66Mar 22, 2015 5:56 pm Thanks! I've started following you now Do you do markets? What do you make? I am but I'm not. I'm basically putting a desk in the store room and using that lol. It opens to the playroom so even though it's tiny it's right there. I will have shelving to the ceiling on one wall and above the desk. I'd love a proper sewing room again but also this will mean I HAVE to be ore organised and tidy hehe. I will also have a spare bedroom I can technically use for sewing if I dont like the store room. I think this is the laminate for our kitchen http://www.nikpol.com.au/decorative-sur ... 0-gl-0-7mm then having white cupboards and white subway tiles. This is our plan, but then we also modified a couple of things Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ we changed this door and added a rear door in the garage. This is the Adelaide MKII Alfresco http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm163/brekkibel/20150226_168_zpsbkt7vmqu.jpg So we have to extend the front a bit so added that in the study and took out the hallway door, the study wall, added the pantry, store room and office, and made the lounge a separate room. We now kind of wish we had have added the extra space into the laundry but oh well. We also moved the fridge to the pantry so extended the cupboards. Heres a link to my photobucket http://s296.photobucket.com/user/brekki ... iew=recent Some pantry ideas, we are using that wire shelving in the pantry and store room. I like that it adjustable. Oh the road is in now too! Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 67Mar 22, 2015 6:01 pm Im the same-light and bright and lots of white! I will also add colour with accessories. Or perhaps paint some walls. Our builder is doing the laundry bench as I wanted the plumbing in the right spot sp we didnt have to move it. For overheads and also for cupboards in the toy room I will use the ikea kitchens. Yes that sink was stupidly expensive! Ikea has the same one for $199 and my friend has had it for years and hasn't had an issue! We are upgrading the bath, the 3 basins, all taps to mixers, the kitchen sink-but only because we have to, the kitchen cupboards to be like the ones pictured in that link (i'm not sure if i uprgade the bathrooms aswell or not? i need help with that. Also cant decide on benchtops for in there), the internal doors and I want a price to make the kitchen cupboards 5-10cm higher from the floor. We popped down there on Sunday arvo and saw the road Can't wait to get close up and actually see our block! We are doing selections next Wed - the guy says it takes about 2 hours.... Umm, maybe it only takes 2 hours for people who actually know what they want! Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 70Mar 23, 2015 5:12 pm Also Jakki - what kind of sink were you thinking for your laundry? A sunken sink flush with your bench or a big tub (standard)? Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 71Mar 23, 2015 5:50 pm oooh lucky you!! haha yeah i bet we take more than 2 hours too! do they have a selection centre that you can go to beforehand? We are having it sunken in the bench and having a mixer tap. Ideally I'd love a smaller ceramic one though Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 72Mar 23, 2015 6:35 pm Yeah they have a selection centre that we've visited twice... so we have ideas but are just really bad at making decisions 😊 I want the same as you for the laundry, just so much more modern and I'm not a fan of the big chunky tub sinks :/ Will let you know how it goes next week! Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 73Mar 23, 2015 8:57 pm Me too! Me either!! I have a thing for laundries so I want to really fit it out well. My friend has aFB page called 'project happiness' and she's on instagram, if you scroll through her photos she has a gorgeous laundry. A little delightful does too Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 75Mar 28, 2015 1:44 pm Hi Shell, welcome! Which lot number are you? I love the idea that we will already 'know' some people by the time we move down there Have you picked a builder/home design? Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 76Mar 28, 2015 10:18 pm Thanks Mahalia. We are Lot 70. Love the idea of this thread, was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled across it! We are tossing up builders at the moment, but we have a floor plan that we are 99% set on. Just curious what people footings costs have been approximately? If your happy to share, I've been reading horror stories of 30k + Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 77Mar 29, 2015 6:09 am I can't really help with the footings cost as we chose a fixed price house and land package through Devine... I liked the fact that they owned the land and had already done soil testing and factored footings into the package price. I found that the other builders were waaaay under quoting as they were just going by average cost as they didn't know the conditions. I think one did some research and said we'd be looking at around 35k realistically for Meadows... But I don't know how dependent it is on where your block is situated and the severity of the slope etc... It really scared me that we wouldn't find out the final footings cost until so far into the process and I didn't want a rude shock and to add too much more onto our loan! Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 78Mar 29, 2015 9:38 am Hi Shell01 how exciting! I cant help with footings either-our engineer will be going out in the next few weeks. Everyone else having settlement this Tuesday? We are! Finally! Our builder has built quite a few in mawson green and they went through all the actual footing costs in there and worked out an average for us. They've quoted 24k. A house directly in front of our block and the same design as us it was 16k, one down by the creek was 32k. I REALLY hoping ours don't go over 24!! Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 79Mar 29, 2015 9:40 am I haven't actually heard when our settlement is... Hopefully soon! Did you go down on Friday Jakki? Wondering if it's all open now or still fenced off? Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 80Mar 29, 2015 10:39 am Ah ok, I know ours is booked for tomorrow and I think it gets paid Tuesday?! I don't really understand it all lol! I did, still fenced off but all the machinery has gone, meter boxes or whatever they are called are all in, there was just a small truck and a ute right up the end. How did you go with your selections? Wish you all the best. Once you signed the contract, they will find millions excuses to charge you.
