Went to ike today about the sink we want- not very helpful lol. Off to routleys again hoping they have a new range or somethjng. Colours on the 11th and Brett goes back to work Monday so not sure when we will get there as it's charlottes birthday Saturday! We are on the left of you- unless I looked at it wrong- I'll look again Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 162Apr 30, 2015 6:48 pm h and that looks lovely, easier to go through the builder! Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 163Apr 30, 2015 6:52 pm Oh a whoops, my bad! Then yes, the big wall is on your side... Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 164Apr 30, 2015 6:59 pm Haha, so i wonder how that works then, its on the boundary, i guess our report will have it on ours too, and we will have one the other side too I'm guessing. I was hoping we would only need them out the back dammit! Does it work like fencing where everyone goes halves I wonder! Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 165Apr 30, 2015 7:02 pm I have no idea! Hoping not to have to worry about it until after the build to be honest! Was the ikea sink not suitable? Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 166Apr 30, 2015 7:11 pm Me too! I've been doing a little reading and it seems that it's the person who alters the natural state of the land, but i guess if its a boundary one and on neighboring engineer reports then it's split I'm surprised there needs to be such a long one and the shape they made it?! I've also been researching the cheapest way to build one lol-i am sure there will be one on our other side too. WELL- it HAS to be in a 60cm cabinet, no bigger. then it has to be modified. Then it needs shorter doors. so she basically said we may need to replace the sink cabinet with smaller ones blah blah blah lol. She was a bit rude about it all actually. Thats the very short version anyway Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 167May 06, 2015 9:48 am How is everyone? Anyone had anymore progress? Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 168May 06, 2015 9:54 am Nothing much on our end... Still finalizing selections! Hubby talked to our electrician friend and he's advised us the best way to modify our plan so it makes things easier for him to come in after and put in our down lights/dimmers/pendants etc. Hopefully all will be finalized this week! When are your selections again Jakki? Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 169May 06, 2015 10:07 am That's handy! Our electrician friend is getting back to us today about some things for us too hehe! I think he's saying to add single powerpoints and he will swap them to doubles and also swap all of them over to slimline for less than us adding the extra double we want- or something like that anyway. Our selections are Monday. I'm struggling with a few things. We've decided on exterior colours atleast. I want brick lay with the tiling and that's That's handy! I think we will take out the kitchen tiling and do that ourselves as we are doing the laundry ourselves too. Kind of wish we could get our own tiler in as I'm sure it would be ALOT cheaper to get it done how we like it What colours have you done inside? We will pretty much have grey and white. Mostly white. Charcoal carpets, spotted gum vinyl planks throughout entry, living and kitchen. extra- and it sounds like it's a lot extra too , they said a kitchen is $57 and that's only for 3 rows of tiling can't imagine what 2 bathrooms will be!! Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 170May 07, 2015 1:33 pm We got our soil report back Site classification P (cut/fill) M-D We need retaining walls on both sides. It says to wait and do them after the blocks either side have been developed as it can change what needs to be done- phew! Looks like we need one in the same place as you Mahalia, good to know we can wait and perhaps look at it together. That side we need one about 10m long I think it looks. The other side it needs to be about 23/24m!! Scared thinking about the cost of that one! Apparently we have some rock so that's 5k and extra soil removal, $4,400 They quoted us 24k for footings, they are actually $18,981 but when everything else gets added in it means we owe $1380 more than originally quoted. Not too bad but not what I wanted to hear! Looks like I better rethink some upgrades. It also says there is 2 inspections requires by engineer during construction and that's an extra cost Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 171May 07, 2015 1:42 pm Oh that's not too bad I'd say! Isn't it a bit weird that it's a dif classification to ours? I have no idea what it all means though! VERY scared about the retaining walls - that is HUGE! Hubby and his dad did a 10m long one at our old house and we thought that was big :/ That cost about $2000 for materials then they did the labour themselves... Do you have any idea when the retaining walls have to be competed? Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 172May 07, 2015 2:04 pm yeah not back, it does say if they don't hit rock or its minimal then they credit us back what they don't need which is good. I was hoping for it to be under so we had more spare $$. They charge extra for bricklay of the tiling and i want that done in both bathrooms so it will cost a fortune as they said a kitchen (3 tiles high) is $57! Might have to rethink my tile choice :/ ouch! 2k for 10m! We will do the labour ourselves too but I was looking at supplies and they are $$$. I was thinking about how we have to have the patterened wall out front, but then maybe swapping to the plain wall after the gate? I was hoping sleepers would be ok out the back and painting them charcoal but it says 'sleepers aren't recommend' also, byt the looks of what the gave us, the retaining wall is in the ground?? and stops at ground level?? That's what it appears like on the diagram but I'm probably just stupid! It just says to wait until the blocks either side have been developed, so I guess that's maybe even after handover? Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 173May 07, 2015 4:37 pm Wonder if we could actually level the space between our houses to avoid retaining.... I don't really understand it all though! Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 174May 07, 2015 5:27 pm Read through the info more and it says that depending how the neighbouring blocks are cut there may not be a need for any retaining walls at all. Good news?! Maybe?! Lol Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 175May 07, 2015 5:55 pm Hmm, that could be a good plan! I don't even know who we would need to speak to about that... So many dramas ahead, I can already tell! I'll have another look at our engineers plan with the retaining and see if I can decipher anything from it! Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 176May 07, 2015 6:09 pm If it helps, ours says it under the retaining wall constructions notes, first page of the section about the walls. I'll try uploading some pics of our report later tonight when my ferals are in bed. Lol at the dramas ahead- I'm sure it's only just starting, but let's hope nothing is actually as hard or as expensive as it seems at the moment Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 177May 07, 2015 11:26 pm I've uploaded them here http://s296.photobucket.com/user/brekki ... ent&page=1 hope it works Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 178May 08, 2015 1:47 pm Hi everyone. To those of you who have done selections I wish we were that far along still waiting for the engineers report which was booked 6 weeks ago. Have been told Devine are holding things up but no explanation why! Regarding your retaining wall we have found using concrete sleepers (especially if you do the work yourself) is a reasonably economical way to go (not that any retaining is cheap). If my memory serves me right we are just not allowed plain grey concrete sleepers out the front but coloured plain ones are OK and they are about $4 extra ea. over the plain grey' we have been using Creative Sleeper Co at Lonsdale over Outback Sleeper Co as their entire package inc. steel channels was cheaper. Hopefully Council will be reasonable about installing walls after all neighbours have built. Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 179May 09, 2015 11:01 pm Hi All. Wow, fair bit of activity on here since I last logged in. Not much progress on the land front for us within the saxon hyde section. Our house is all ready to go we're just waiting on the block to clear. With any luck we could be up and running within 4 weeks, I wont be holding my breath though. I have rumors to spread about the larger commercial block in the saxon hyde area, they are trying for a child care center in there. By the time its up and running (if at all) will probably to late for us to make use of it Re: Is anyone building at Mawson Green, Meadows SA? 180May 11, 2015 1:21 pm Welcome back Chuckles, just wondering which builder you are using? Has any one heard any more goss on the possibility of an IGA/Foodland store being built in Meadows and if so what is the possible time frame before we get it. Went to the Mawson Cafe for Mother's Day breakfast and it was a lovely meal. Wish you all the best. Once you signed the contract, they will find millions excuses to charge you.
