Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 07, 2008 9:29 pm Our new house (about 4 weeks to handover) has what the builder calls a sarla, a roofed outdoor patio.
It's about 13m x 4.5m (broken by 2 brick pillars) and can be accessed from almost all of the bedrooms/living areas. It's about the height of a standard ceiling (about 2.4m). It could be one of the nicest parts of the house, especially on Queensland summer evenings so we've had it fitted with full lighting, power etc and hope to make a lot of use of it. Problem is the house is on acreage and, on summer nights especially, we'll get so many bugs it will make sitting out there very uncomfortable. We want to fully screen the opening (one side only, 4.5m + 4.5m + 4m) against bugs so we can not only enjoy the area but also leave all the sliding doors to the house (4) open most of the time. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of products designed to properly solve this problem. We found these Monarch Maxi Screens (http://www.screenit.net.au). A rough cost would be about $5,000. It seems expensive. Anybody have a better solution? Re: Fly/insect screens for patio/outdoor room 3Jun 08, 2008 7:19 pm Wow. very impressive those motorised screens. But they also look very, very expensive. I'll check them out. Many thanks.
