Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Build - Final Pics pg. 1214Sep 15, 2015 11:14 pm Well it's been 10 weeks since we moved in so thought would show a little of the front yard progress. This is using only 6kg of grass seed ($8 per kg) and 10 weeks of growth. I must say I'm pretty happy with the results so far and this has been majority inter growth I predict by January this whole area will be covered in grass. We still have a lot to do to the front but just thought I'd show how far its come with the grass from seed only (I'm like a proud parent lol) Before in mid July: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ After (well in progress) first week of September : Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Build - Final Pics pg. 1215Sep 16, 2015 11:20 am Wow Bees, the grass looks fantastic. Any tips - we are also about to embark on a grass seed journey lol. I hope ours turns out as nice as yours looks - we have very clay based soil :l not sure if that is a good thing or not... did you water everyday with a sprinkler? Loving the colour of the lounges as well, very 'Tiffany'. Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Build - Final Pics pg. 1216Sep 16, 2015 11:35 am Bonnie_p Wow Bees, the grass looks fantastic. I hope ours turns out as nice as yours looks - we have very clay based soil :l not sure if that is a good thing or not... did you water everyday with a sprinkler? Loving the colour of the lounges as well, very 'Tiffany'. I must confess it gets alot of water daily as its our HSTP effluent area... But basically what we did was: Scratched the soil with a rake over the entire area to loosen it up a little, then used a seed/fertilizer spreader on wheels and tipped 6kg of seed in. We then just walked up and down spreading the seed all over until it was all spread over the entire area. We then spent about 1hr together walking like penguins to press the seeds into the soil whilst still having them exposed to sun and water. (felt like an idiot doing this) then just waited and watched the magic happen... Now it does get alot of water basically most of that area has pipes under the gorund about 20-30cm below the surface which have little holes in the pipe which drips out the effluent water as well as two airborne sprinklers on a long hose that we move around to get the areas that arent getting as much under ground soak... I couldnt tell you exact amounts of water but my tank discharges about 3-4 times a day so its always getting alot of water... the back yard which was seeded the same way isnt as thick as its only ever had rain water (3 times over past 10 weeks) and there are a few spots where the bobcat scraped and compacted the soil so i really ened to top dress with more seed those areas... but once the entire front is 100% covered (about 80% now) i will then concentrate on the back doing a top dress and reseed, as well as focus water and hope for more summer rain to get that established... The back side and rear of the property that was un-touched by the builder i have been weed and feeding to try get it as healthy as possible, to encourage it to spread and grow to the other seeded areas. Ive also weed and weed the front nature strip and used a bit of left over soil to top dress that as it was looking dry and flat from all the service vehicles parking and driving over it, unfortunetly i cant use my hstp water on the nature strip so it will have to rely on rain but trying to help it with fertalizer and top dressing to try and bring it to a nice look. Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Build - Final Pics pg. 1217Sep 16, 2015 11:44 am Thanks for that Bees, we are opposite, our disposal area is at the back so we should have nice juicy grass at the back and will have to water the front. Thank you for the explanation, looking forward to marching around like a penguin lol Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Build - Final Pics pg. 1218Sep 16, 2015 7:15 pm Would be awesome if could have like a 100m hose and just be able to use that water every where! Never have to waste water again lol I'm not an environmental person but I must admit I am getting a kick out of not wasting water in th fact we are reusing it and the befits are really noticeable rather than it going down the drain and out to sea Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Build - Final Pics pg. 1219Sep 16, 2015 7:31 pm Tribe7 Am thinking about driving up to the bbo, it's a damn mission though so I'm trying to find out if it's worth the effort? Think I might hit up freedom instead. I refuse point blank to take our kid festy, disgusting couches to the new house [ Mr Bee, the house looks ahh-mazing! You must be so proud! Tribe-7, BBO is hit and miss. We are lucky, we're building in Aspley so we can drop in frequently. It's basically the Freedom factory outlet with all their end of line stuff from what I can work out. Lots of couches, some outdoor stuff, dining settings, etc. Sometimes I walk in and want to buy the whole shop, other times nothing... If you make the trip also check out BFO at the Aspley homemaker centre, nearly across the road. Same kind of place. Sometimes nothing, other times you find a gem.
