We had been researching land the whole time we were looking, just incase, and we looked all over the north brisbane area. We knew where we wanted to be, just took us a while to find it. We have progressed over the past 8 years starting with a townhouse close to the city on 110m2 to building a new house further out on 800m2 The house we built at suited us at the time, 4 bed, 2 bath, 3 car garage etc.. It was a 226m2 house and it was nicely appointed. However, the build took a long time, from land purchase in September 2009 to building contract signed and block cut November 2009. Then plans finalised and submitted to council March 2010, slab poured July 2010 and finally hand-over February 2011. During that time, our lives changed dramatically with the pregnancy and birth of our daughter before the house was even finished! This event effectively rendered our new house obsolete before we even started, it is a great home for a young couple but just not quite big enough or set out for a family and the back yard ,whilst being large, wasn't big enough for what we wanted, room to move, sheds and pools... That brought us to the next logical step... Bigger land and bigger family orientated home... In September 2013 we put a contract on a 3000m2 block selecting it for future growth and to be a perfect base for us for the next 10-20yrs. The block settled on the 11th of November 2013.... We visited many display homes, went through hundreds of plans, spoke to the major builders and visited all of their displays. Nearly every builder we spoke to had a variation of a plan which suited us, however the more we spoke to them and researched the more we decided we wanted something a bit 'different' something more custom and 'one off' This led us down the track of a local boutique builder, right from the initial contact we were impressed with his organisation and experience, we met onsite (something which none of the other builders even offered) and spent over an hour discussing aspects and features we wanted to incorporate. The builder was then able to present a design brief to us which led into a plan design and specification which blew us away. We actually feel it was better to go in with no plan or mud map and let the creativity of the builder dictate the house shape and design to suit our block. What we ended up with was a 350m2 (38sq), 5 bedroom house laid out perfectly for our block and our lifestyle. Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Custom Build in Brisban 3Sep 18, 2014 10:21 am We were able to incorporate the features that mattered most to us, Children's Retreat for a dedicated play area, 3rd toilet (Powder room) so guests didn't have to go through the children’s area to use the bathroom, butlers pantry for a little bit of luxury and the usual bathroom and ensuite that is somewhat standard these days... one element that was a must was the porte cochere this was really an unnecessary luxury but it will compliment the over all look and style of the end product. We were lucky with having a decent frontage (45m) so we were able to spread the house to have 'wings' which is a luxury most blocks these days don't have. Once the house is built the plan is to have a pool area in a resort / Asian themed style and two sheds at the back one to be a lined shed dedicated to hobbie rooms and one for the tools and toys. Here is the house plan on the block and some front and and side elevations. We have designed it with privacy in mind and to be able to ‘hide the mess’ by closing the cavity slider leading into the children’s wing so guests don’t see that area when they use the powder room, having the separate foyer which hides the living area from view of the front door and a butlers pantry with sink and dishwasher to hide the food prep and dishes from view of the living area. We also tried to keep all the bedrooms and bathrooms on one side with garage on the opposite side and the open plan living leading to a rear facing alfresco. The lounge room was originally a media but because we only used our old media room a handful of times and couldn’t have two TVs going in Media and Living at same time any way we decided to open that room up and make it more of a TV/Lounge room. Some of the main features of our home are: • 2550mm ceilings though the house excluding the Porte Cochere, Alfreco and open plan Living with these areas having scissor truss raked ceilings to give a more open feeling • 3000mm vaulted entry ceiling to Foyer • Porte Cochere for a drive through entry • 2550mmx1640mm Wrought Iron Front Entry Doors • Carpets to bedrooms and lounge room with rectified tiles to the rest • Floor to Ceiling tiles in Ensuite and Bathroom • Stone to kitchen bench, Bathroom Vanity & Ensuite Vanity • Stylelite Polymer or 2 Pac Kitchen cabinetry this hasn’t been decided yet • Monier Horizon Flat Roof Tiles with A Line Capping • Render to entire house • Kwila (Merbau) Posts to front and rear with highlights about windows, garage door and Porte Cochere • 26 degree roof pitch • Exposed Eaves to front of house We are essentially aiming for an external resort style theme with a classic yet modern indoor theme. We signed the building contract in September 2014 and we are looking to put the slab down around the end of October… Looking forward to updating the thread with heaps of progress photos and info as we progress in the journey Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Custom Build in Brisban 5Sep 18, 2014 12:25 pm Re the local guy - have you seen his product and spoken to the owners ? Our parents house was built by him and we know of 4 other friends who have built with him recently, also visited 6 previous houses he has built over the span of the last few years.
