Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Build - block cut! 62Dec 11, 2014 9:27 am Progress has been happening daily at the moment, we had the house pegged out and yesterday the footings were poured... we visited this morning to find the plumber on site at 6:30am putting in all of the pipe work ready for the slab. This is a view looking North East into the Garage. We were worried that they had set out and measured ours wrongly!! Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Build - Plumbing in! 68Dec 12, 2014 11:19 am Yep funny how slabs look teeny tiny. Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Build - Plumbing in! 69Dec 14, 2014 6:41 am Sadly no action on Friday due to weather One week to get the slab down so fingers crossed the rain holds off during the week! Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Build - Council Approve 70Dec 14, 2014 4:30 pm MrBee Ru2014 What a beautiful home you are building, Mr and MrsBee. I have just been reading through your thread. I will be following your thread. We are building on ac acreage in Greenbank, Brisbane and I was just wondering how much is it going to cost you to render the whole house as we are thinking to do the same but post handover and our house is 42Sqs single story Hi Ru2014 thanks for the kind words, to be honest i couldn't tell you how much the rendering was as it was just part of the overall cost derived from our original design brief, so it was always something that was happening not a lets see how much it is and decide... as it turns out the builders standard was Rockcote Acrylic Render with the colour mixed in which i hadnt heard of before but after seeing it applied it was a faultless consistent finish and has more flex than cement render and a guarantee of 15yrs on it on the few houses we saw from this builder the render finishes were impeccable. On the other hand we saw another house who elected to have render applied after hand over (metricon build) due to the cost at construction they were quoted and i know they paid $4800 to have a 300m2 house exertior cement rendered and painted by tradies after handover however i was shocked that no down pipes were removed or fixtures to the house with some things rendered over or upto the fixture and a generally rough job with some uneven patches throughout... i guess with something like render the old adage you get what you pay for may ring true unless you fond a tradie who takes pride in their work and will do it at a low cost... I do know when we were first looking into builders Plantation wanted $30,000 to render a 320m2 low set house so i do believe some project builders do take a bit of liberty in their rendering prices and would be well worth investigating having it done after completion but i would personally remove all fixtures from the brick work before they start and reattach after for the cleanest job after seeing how lazy some renders could be if doing a cheap job. Thanks for the tips, never thought of removing fixtures from the brick work. We are in the process of getting a quotation for post handover. Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Build - Council Approve 71Dec 14, 2014 4:39 pm MrBee Have locked in our tapware/basin's selections from Reece, pretty happy with what we have selected, should hopfully suit style of the house and also be uniform across all wet areas to keep consistent look and feel throughout the wet area;s of the house. Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Build - Plumbing in! 72Dec 15, 2014 6:17 pm Some more action today, the slab was boxed up thanks to the break in weather My two things I've learnt today were: Profiles: I always wondered what they used them for and realised today lol it's amazing how they measure out a slab especially one with so many bends and walls like ours Perception: it got the better of me.. I got the tape measure out and started measuring! It has somewhat put our minds at ease my measurements were close to plan so must just be a perception thing on size! Ohh and learnt what termimesh is lol guy was putting the collars on our pipes when we turned up all interesting stuff! Slab boxed: And Framing turned up so good to see piles of wood hard to imagine they will end up our walls! They did arrive early as we were supposed to be a bit ahead with slab but none the less they are there and ready Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Build - Plumbing in! 73Dec 15, 2014 7:07 pm Just found your thread. Love your plan and you've made some great choices. Looking forward to watching it all come together! Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Build - Plumbing in! 74Dec 16, 2014 12:58 pm Concrete pump and truck were there this morning! Slab should be done by the time we get home ... I'm sure Mr Bee will have photos later Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Build - Plumbing in! 75Dec 16, 2014 3:28 pm Re: Our semi acreage 'Forever House' Build - Plumbing in! 76Dec 16, 2014 7:18 pm At the risk of talking to myself... WE HAVE A SLAB! HOORAY! Arrived this afternoon to find a nice shiney slab all done! One thing that I hadn't seen before was the bolts for the external frame actually set into the slab. Unfortunately (for my pictures) they didn't pour the Alfresco or Port Cochere slab so it's looking a bit small on the foot print side. We measured again and have a slight concern with master size due to ensuite pipe location so we are meeting builder just to make sure after the carpenter chalks out the frame tommorow. On the down side the slab bill arrived this afternoon lol damn it! Oh and the site bin hasn't turned up so a bit messy if it's not there tomorrow might have to get the builder to get one ASAP the neighbours won't like rubbish flying around the streets!
