Re: Do we need an independent building inspector? 23Dec 01, 2014 6:32 am Your average project builder is not a premium builder and that is fine because you know you are not getting top job but there is one that pretends to be, advertises so and charges a premium price for the homes it builds but when you look at it they don't have any quality control and in many ways it's way below average. In my view it is dishonest and a con SS tried to tell me they do have quality control but when I asked him how did this get past him (my post on "vandalism is not dead long live vandalism" he had no answer. That wasn't the odd job out/ all their jobs are a reflection of breakdown of management and missing control, yet the premium money still flows into their pockets. I am a builder and know that anyone can make a mistake, but that's fine you fix it, atone for it and keep going. I call these random defects because despite best efforts they can happen because you can't watch everyone all the time. However what I am observing is something quite different. I call it systemic defects, they are part of a system where building companies are run by lawyers and accountants and its all about the money and cost cutting. Decisions are made on not what is a good job but what they can get away with. Because there are no penalties in civil matters and building control has no bite they know they can get away with a lot, and they do. How else can you explain SS walking past a defect so obvious it could hit him in the nose and doing nothing about it? Its all about getting to the next stage and payment.Quality? Who cares for the devil knows I don't. I do enjoy watching that tik tok inspector from Victoria but he does go a little… 12 81767 It is true that a builder can ignore your independent inspection report as it is not part of the contractual arrangement but that is stupid because he cannot avoid fixing… 9 46818 |
