Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 16, 2014 11:10 pm We are now into our 11th week since slab down and still waiting for a bricklayer. The construction manager called me last week and said he didn't know when a team was expected to start.
How long has everyone else had to wait for a bricklayer? Please tell me it will be soon We are building north of Perth Re: Still waiting for bricklayers after 11 weeks 2Sep 16, 2014 11:53 pm Hi. There has been long waits for most of the builders at the moment. There is long waits for quite a few of the different trades due to the current resurgent in building. Who are you building with? I can't believe that they are taking so long!! I hope your supervisor manages to pull his finger out and entice some trades to your block! Hopefully with this nice weather the brickies can get back on track and they will be at your place before long. Good to see that your build is going well though! Re: Still waiting for bricklayers after 11 weeks 8Sep 17, 2014 11:05 pm Aveling Things do seem to have gone crazy lately. I should've bought a prefab house from Germany! Re: Still waiting for bricklayers after 11 weeks 9Sep 18, 2014 11:05 am triggywiggy Burnsfirsttime That really sucks!! I think we waited two or three weeks. But we have a different supervisor than VinesBuild and that really seems to make a difference... it how much pull your super has as to when you get trades on your block it seems. Very frustrating and very unfair!! My build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68002 Re: Still waiting for bricklayers after 11 weeks 10Sep 22, 2014 8:24 pm I asked for an update today and was told bricklayers are due to start end of this week/ start of next week. I've been told this several times already so I won't get my hopes up. They assured me that they will make up for lost time with other trades. I sure hope so! Re: Bricklayers have started! 11Sep 25, 2014 8:24 pm Update! Our sales consultant called (she has more info than our CLO), bricks started 2 days ago! I can't wait to go and see it! So happy Re: Bricklayers have started! 12Sep 26, 2014 1:26 am VinesBuild Update! Our sales consultant called (she has more info than our CLO), bricks started 2 days ago! My Build, viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64837 Re: Still waiting for bricklayers after 11 weeks 14Sep 26, 2014 10:03 am One of the downsides of owner building as I have discovered, is that to any tradie, I am just a one-off job, versus a project builder who provides those tradies with ongoing work throughout the year. Just the other week the bricky I had lined up to do our new home pulled out because his regular employer/project home builder, has told him that he needs him continuously until Christmas, so he's had to pull out of my job. Now, I'm still trying to find a replacement... one quote came back well over $2000 more ! Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: Still waiting for bricklayers after 11 weeks 16Sep 29, 2014 1:34 am Hi VinesBuild I am also building with Aveling but in Southern River, I heard that waiting for bricklayers also depends on the area, if there are a few houses from the same builder, it is easier then. Any idea if this issue with bricklayers in perth wide or maybe more in some areas? how has been your experience with Aveling so far? I am not quite happy with the timeline, things seem to move too slow for my like. Re: Still waiting for bricklayers after 11 weeks 17Sep 29, 2014 11:51 am Hi Bletchley Our experience with Aveling has been pretty good so far, apart from this delay but that isn't really their fault. I heard the bricklayer shortage is Australia wide now. How long have you been waiting? Good news is our bricks have indeed started and they have made excellent progress in just 3 days. So they ended up starting in week 12 since slab down. When I learn how to post photos I'll put up a photo. However seeing it for real has made us realise we've made a little mistake with one of our windows, oops. Never mind, lesson learnt. I post using photobucket but there are other photo sharing apps. You need to post the link Re: Still waiting for bricklayers after 11 weeks 19Oct 02, 2014 11:11 pm Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 8 2248 6 7974 Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
