C handles simply refers to the shape of the handle, curved like a 'C', see picture below. they can then be made in any material -chrome, plastic etc, or any size. Re: PD no Bathroom accessories? 22Jun 07, 2008 11:16 am the c handles. also called
bow" handles are from the standard range in a lot of the builder and cabinet makers here in the west. There are a few slight variations on the shaping on the handle. some are consistent thickness all the way along and some narrow towards the middle of the handle. Visited a few friends houses on the weekend that were newish and noticed they all had them. My aunt who recently had her kitchen refurbished also has them. We've decided to have them as well but in the polished nickel colour. Looks like shiny black pearl for our kitchen and in the non shiny silver colour for the bathrooms. Re: PD no Bathroom accessories? 23Jun 07, 2008 11:30 am The C or Bow and the D are the standard range with PD too. We are having the D ones in our bathroom, ensuite and laundry. We have upgraded to bar handles for our kitchen and have been charged $5.88 each. I think that price is a mistake in our PCV as the quote given via email was $6.20 each but verbally we were told $10, $12 and 14 depending on the length. Happy at Home Re: PD no Bathroom accessories? 24Jun 07, 2008 11:32 pm We considered the bar type handles but I wasn't that sure about them on the cupboards , although I loved the look of them on the drawers. I feel a little bit the same about the bows we've finally gone with only in reverse. I think they look better on the cupboards than the drawers. Specifically the pot drawers. I'm worried they'll look really odd on longer than normal drawers. We were lucky. we had a choice of about 8 different handle types in a variety of finishes as the standard range. There was even one that reminded me of the oven handle. ( quite liked the idea of it matching) Re: PD no Bathroom accessories? 25Jun 08, 2008 7:43 am kexkez We considered the bar type handles but I wasn't that sure about them on the cupboards , although I loved the look of them on the drawers. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ OMG, I finally posted a photo!!!! Yay!!! kexkez, hopefully our handles will look like this. We had to go with these handles as they were the only ones that PD offered in a length over 300mm. Our pot (tupperware) drawers are 900mm long so I preferred to have long handles on them. Also hoping that the handles might break up all the white. We are having a polar white kitchen with Ice QQ benchtop and Dulux Oyster Linen for the splashback. Congrats for working out the photo posting. I can't always get it to work. We have polar white cupboards in this rental atm in the kitchen. They look great. we are having polar white on our vanity doors in the en-suite in our new house. Our pot drawers won't be as long as originally planned now so I'm feeling better about the bow handles but i do know what you mean. I thought the tiny bows would have looked odd on longer pot drawers. Re: PD no Bathroom accessories? 27Jun 10, 2008 11:42 pm This might sound like a silly question, but what is a noggin? Re: PD no Bathroom accessories? 28Jun 11, 2008 7:55 am Wonderland, Noggin's are the little pieces of timber that are joined to the house frame (struts??). They lay horizontally in the frame which give added support to the frame of the house. If you know where you are going to put up the towel rails, toilet roll holders etc you can add extra noggin's in the frame stage so when you move in the rails etc will be screwed into the noggin and not just into the plasterboard. If there is only plasterboard to support the rails etc then you would need to use wall plugs and you may find that it won't last a long time. Happy at Home Re: PD no Bathroom accessories? 30Jun 11, 2008 9:08 am joeygbh, you'd probably be better off taking photos of the frame when it's done and maybe some measurements. We have already bought our towel rails etc so will take them to the house when we are at the frame stage and decide where we will put them, add extra noggins if necessary and then take photos and measurements.
As for getting a copy of construction drawings - sorry I have no idea about that. Maybe someone who has already built or currently building may know. If the site foreman won't put the noggins in for you, can you still put it in yourself without their permission? Or would they tear it down when they see it? Re: PD no Bathroom accessories? 32Jun 11, 2008 10:53 am Another option for remembering where important things within the frame is to do what we did with our last home. Before the plastering was done we marked on the concrete slab with spray paint / indelible pen wherever there was something important (for example our builder had let us put drop-lines throughout the frame for later installation of telephone cables / powerpoints etc) - once the plastering / home was completed and just prior to the flooring being installed we went around with a fine pen and made a small mark on each skirting board so we knew where things were. Made it much easier come time for installation of extra power points to know where the droplines were ready and waiting. We also marked them on our plans for further reference. Re: PD no Bathroom accessories? 33Jun 11, 2008 10:56 am joeygbh Do the builders like PD ever give out their construction drawings? Like so you can find the studs later if you didn't put noggins in? You do get a set of construction drawings - but they dont show stud positioning or detail like that. As HTB said, before they plaster, go round with a camera and take photos, that way you know where everything is. Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Kexkez, Me too!! Although I didn't know the kitchen was polar white until I got a sample from laminex. I think your handles will be fine. I've seen smallish handles on 600mm pot drawers and they look fine. Happy at Home Re: PD no Bathroom accessories? 35Jun 11, 2008 12:58 pm wonderland Thanks house-to-be for that. Or would they tear it down when they see it? Wonderland, from what I've heard/seen builder's don't have a problem with the client putting in extra noggins. Our previous builder was Coral Homes in Brisbane and they actually did it all for us. We plan on doing it ourselves once we clear it with our SS. Good idea with what kyton did by marking them on the slab. Will look at doing that too. Happy at Home Re: PD no Bathroom accessories? 36Jun 11, 2008 1:25 pm Helyn C handles simply refers to the shape of the handle, curved like a 'C', see picture below. Ahhh I thought as much, it is what we have on our cupboards now. Will definately be getting bar ones then. Not that there is anything wrong with "C" ones, just not what I want. Re: PD no Bathroom accessories? 37Jun 11, 2008 1:56 pm Or if its all said and done and you didn't get around to taking photos/ marking the floor etc, just purchase a stud finder, they work just as well on noggins.
