Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 13, 2014 1:59 pm Hi. I am building with homegroup wa at the moment and i am at lockup stage. I have found that Homegroup WA have taken a really long time to get to this stage and when I asked for an anticipated practical completion date I was not given one has any one else experience this Also I have asked about the lack of construction progress and they say we will not build with speed and compromise on quality. However I have found that the speed and quality is not what i expected. Does Homegroup WA address all problems before the PCI? I dont know the reason why they would wait right till the end to rectify problems. When they could be doing during the construction process, I pointed out to them the brick and roof concerns during their construction but they chose not to rectified it. The brickwork has been an area where i wasnt happy with... there are many areas which are not level, and even the entrance there are some bricks which are sticking out more than others. and at the back of the house the motar in three lines is of different sizes. do not know how they would fix it. Also some of the brickwork are chipped but they will rectify at the end so i been told. The roof tiles almost every single roof tile has chipped marks on it and some are larger than others, and the quality of the roof tiles have been placed is not that good, there are many areas where there are gaps inbetween tiles. However again i have been told that this will be rectified towards the end of the job. I suspect that Homegroup wa uses defect or 2nd roof tiles to cut down on cost on their end even though i had to pay an extra $6500 to upgrade to roof tiles with sarking... There is a soffit also at the back which was not installed properly and also missing a division strip however i suspect that again that they would not fix it till towards the end of the job. Is it normal for homegroup wa to not fix evident problems till towards the end of the construction???? It has been a year since we purchase the land and we are practically the last one in the street to have yet not moved in. + homegroup wa paper work takes forever and you cannot just "take someone elses concept" from homegroup WA to shorten it. How long did Homegroup WA take to complete the house, how was their quality of work and did they fix problems as they go or did they wait till the end after or before the PCI. Re: Home Group WA- Hammond Heights. 2Sep 13, 2014 2:37 pm also a side note there have change my consultants about 4-5 times now however i got a really good consultant atm, who keeps me up to date with everthing, and response quickly unlike the others that i had. however she is the 1st consultant that i was assigned too.. if only i was assigned to her in the begginning to the end with her my construction would be more smooth sailing. Re: Home Group WA- Hammond Heights. 3Sep 17, 2014 2:04 pm Hi Henry, Sorry to hear about what's happening with your build. If you would like me to look into it further for you, could you please email me your job number so I can pass it on to the right department? My email is customerservice@homegroupwa.com.au To answer your questions, all issues can be addressed by contacting your Construction Consultant, who will advise if it is a matter that needs to be addressed during construction or something that will be completed along the way and then be reviewed at you Practical Completion Inspection. Furthermore, we also conduct our own internal Quality Control Inspection at the completion of construction prior to inviting you to site for your Practical Completion Inspection. Please feel free to contact your Construction Consultant if you have any further concerns, or myself if you would like to be put in touch with anyone else within the company. We are more than happy to help answer any questions you may have. Kind Regards, Dylan Re: Home Group WA- Hammond Heights. 4Sep 17, 2014 2:35 pm Hi Henry!! I don't know how I have missed your Thread! yes HGWA is slow in the paper dept. They have been great with my build and are on to things straight away. At the end HGWA will have it come together. I have a very good SS and CC! They have fixed and worked with me to fit up all things I have not been happy with so far. I have been very happy with all of the tradies that come through the house and have been doing a great job. It all hasn't been good there have been and are still something's that we are not happy with (not the build of the house just things in the contract). I am trying to get them all smoothed out mainly cause its given me anxiety. So much can and does go wrong when building. Do you have a house plan and photos!!! I would love to see them!! Re: Home Group WA- Hammond Heights. 5Sep 17, 2014 2:46 pm Hi, when did you start building? I could pretty much guarantee without hearing a slab down date that your builder is still working faster than my builder, haha! Which, I mean in a compliment - I would much rather have chosen HGWA than freelife homes. Re: Home Group WA- Hammond Heights. 6Sep 24, 2014 12:50 am Earthworks started around March this year most of the external of the building has been done just the internal that needs to be completed, plus the tons of items that require to be fixed. One thing to note is you will have to make sure that you meet with the roof tilers, brick layers, tilers and supervisor before their respective trade begins, because they DO NOT CHECK FOR THE CONDITION OF THE SUPPLIED GOODS, make sure the roof tilers, brick tilers, and all trades that you get in contact with and get them to check the conditions of the item before they install and check that it is the right product. WA homegroup did not even organise a meeting with the roof tilers and supervisor to check on the condition of roof tiles and also the right colour. No doubt because majority of the roof tiles that were delivered was chiped and despite letting them know about it they continue to use it and there was a set of tiles which were of complete different colour and yet they still installed them on roof. Had to tell them that there is were sections of the roof tiles of a different colour and also that the majority of roof tiles are chipped. I was questioned how I come across the roof issues and I told them with my own eyes and standing from the ground floor level! They have rectified the different coloured roof tiles but not the chipped tiles. Re: Home Group WA- Hammond Heights. 8Sep 24, 2014 1:42 am Hi Henry, where are you building? Our build with HGWA went smoothly. At out PCI we hired a house inspector to go through the house at the same time as us. He picked up every little detail that was not up to scratch and gave us a report, which we then gave to HGWA. They have fixed every thing on the list, including replacing chipped brick. Six months after hand over, they do another maintenance and fix anything that you notice that needs fixing. We first met with HGWA in May 2013, slab went down in Feb 2014 and we got our keys in Aug. Would you mind posting your house plan? I'd love to see it. Toni's thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=71645 Re: Home Group WA- Hammond Heights. 9Sep 24, 2014 1:43 am Sorry..just noticed Hammond Heights. Where is that? Toni's thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=71645 Re: Home Group WA- Hammond Heights. 10Sep 26, 2014 1:40 am Hammond heights is in Hammond park. do not know how to post plans, but it is just the Monte Carlo, not much changes the biggest change was moving the window overlooking the alfresco to window overlooking the backyard, having a double glass row window as my kitchen splash back and a larger enclose Walk In linen for laundry area. enlarging all the windows to full height. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=73335&hilit=homegroup+wa Re: Home Group WA- Hammond Heights. 13Oct 04, 2014 9:31 am hi Henry! How has your build been going? have HGWA stored out the tiles? Re: Home Group WA- Hammond Heights. 14Oct 04, 2014 10:52 pm Yeah tiles are all done, chose the wrong tile for splashback, oh well will have to paint over it. the skirting for the ldry i will get them to redo as there is one tile that is showing its side... but the main floor tiles darkbrown with grount colour sienna s8 from the home group range looks really good, not to dark not to light just right. Re: Home Group WA- Hammond Heights. 15Oct 18, 2014 7:42 pm My sister built with Home Group in Wellard and we built with New Gen in Hammond Heights, her build started a few weeks before ours and we had handover about 4 months before her (taking into account it was over Christmas so maybe 3 months without that delay). Where about's in Hammond Heights are you? We are on Cousins Street in the first release. It is a pretty nerve wrecking experience but when it is all finished it will feel like a lifetime ago. Hope it goes smoothly for the rest of the build Re: Home Group WA- Hammond Heights. 16Oct 18, 2014 8:42 pm Im on the third release... Frankland Ave., still got carpets, paintings, paving, whirly birds, garage door to go. Plus they made a mistake of puting a flume and exhaust fan in the laundry...... and there was one missing in the main wc *shakes heads*. I told them to cover the stone top whilst other trades are working and they said that they would but they didnt, and its got paint and marking on it atm. and they seem to take a while to fix defects, while they should be fixed while the trades are still on site, but to no avail, each time i bring something up they said they will fix later.... which just causes more delay, if you are renting you definitely do not want to build with Home Group WA, as the extra delay that they take in building the house will be needed to added to the building your house. I hope their own quality inspection takes a week to complete but I highly doubt it would occur. I was hoping it was going to be complete before my Birthday. Re: Home Group WA- Hammond Heights. 18Nov 25, 2014 6:34 pm well my PCI is next week with homegroup. and I asked them to ensure that they bring along a set of keys so that we can open and close and inspect the windows and their response. "we do not provide the window keys to the Supervisor for your PCI Inspection. This is standard procedure. If you have any issues with the keys after handover, please advise and I will arrange for Dowell Windows to arrange a time to visit your property." lol... I would be interested to see how the pci goes.... next week... also noted a dent on my window frame how they will rectify that I provide an update. Re: Home Group WA- Hammond Heights. 19Nov 25, 2014 9:40 pm We are also building with HGWA (initial stage). Have you considered getting an independent building inspector for this critical stage? Relatively easy to get a quote and based on what we have seen it is between $500-700. Our Rivello build in Ellenbrook Re: Home Group WA- Hammond Heights. 20Nov 26, 2014 1:57 am wow jnm? make sure to get as much as the changes done before the contract, ask them for a program hopefully you will have better luck in getting one, and also a weekly update. I was shown a program on the supervisor ipad during the tile meeting but when i ask for one from homegroup was never given one... also you will save a lot of money just to get homegroup to do up the lock up stage. do as much as you can yourself as they take very long get things done, and when i ask them what they have done for the last two weeks got no response... also homegroup wa has detered me from building again but my advice for anyone is to ask who is responsible for supervisor the house and what is their experience and get it written in the contract... expect a very very very slow build and you will soon also discover what is their "quality" of workmanship. I do hope however that your experience with homegroup wa is the complete opposite of mine. which has been delay after delay... with no progress of works. Building Standards; Getting It Right!
