Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 08, 2014 5:24 pm You know what now I have moved into our new home I have to say most certainly not. The really feeling I have is that they really don't care about the customers they are building for. We reported our oven (which they supply and install as part of the 'yes' package upgrade) as being faulty 5-6 weeks ago and still it stands there in our kitchen which it turns out is too high for the cooker!!! All of these points are of no interest to Masterton and I've been left with no choice but to turn to the Department of Fair Trading to intervene as on there own Masterton could care less! Just beware the standard of the 'upgrade' which you are paying for could be of poor quality and you could well have been better off buying one yourself rather then being left with a faulty one which Masterton have little interest in sorting out. Re: Masterton would I recommend them... 2Sep 16, 2014 12:47 am Hi Loukia, I'm from Vic but it's just the same for many builders down this way also. The thing to remember is that government representatives (at least in Vic in my experience) say that they are not allowed to define defect... or define it inadequately. Your oven problem is probably a lay-down misere (spelling?), but sometimes I have seen really bad workmanship ignored by these representatives. Often they use (in Vic) the Guide to Standards and Tolerances as their one-and-all reference but for painting issues after 2 years they won't even look at them, when they must do so for instance when timbers outside were inadequately protected and rotting as a result of inadequate priming for instance. They often fail to see the bigger picture. Leonardo_23 Re: Masterton would I recommend them... 3Sep 16, 2014 6:30 am I agree with you I gave heard the term within tolerance used as a cop out too often, the real reply should be, this has bees poorly or badly completed and requires attention. Oh well we give the builder in the region of $400,000 can they not afford $2000 to be put towards finishing touched to make right these small points. As always not enough pride and a bit too much greed! Something tells me these builders are not on the breadline! Ultimately as the owner of the property we should gave better protection against this kind of frequently encountered behaviour. Re: Masterton would I recommend them... 4Mar 14, 2015 10:20 am I can understand that having a problem like a non-working oven is upsetting, but are you saying that your $400k home is a total disaster? If the oven issue was resolved would you be happy with your new home? Building is never an easy process but is the end result a well built house? Other options to getting this resolved are to talk to the oven manufacturer to see if they will fix/replace it under warranty - they may well do so to keep the good will up on their brand. I don't understand how installing the oven 'too high' has caused a problem, have you talked to the kitchen supplier directly? Is the oven installed as per your kitchen plans? if not the kitchen company may well come out to rectify it. Even if you convince M to do the fix they are going to call on the kitchen company anyway. Good luck - keep up the good fight, I'm sure you'll get there. The kitchen / oven problem should have been dealt with quickly and with little inconvenience. Instead M make the process painful and left me feeling like they there hoping I would just give up and disapear. The oven was finally replaced with a Smeg oven which fits the bench top height without requiring any adjustment. Eventually you go from an minor problem requiring rectification by m, to becoming so frustrated with the poor handling of the problem that overall you can't help but say m could have done better and the build quality doesn't come into it. Re: Masterton would I recommend them... 6Mar 14, 2015 9:37 pm I don't believe Loukia said his home is a disaster, only that he wouldn't recommend them. You can go to a restaurant and have nice food and terrible customer service and you won't go back even thoughnthe product is good. Hope you get the problem resolved and you are entiltled to expect decent customer service, whether it be buying a car, icecream or house. When will businesses learn that the most loyal customers are those that have had problems and have had them resolved to their satisfaction. 4 16558 wondering anyone built with omaxe homes and care to share their experiences. thanks 0 13782 Hi everyone.
