Luckily we had made a couple of visits to the studio prior and we were quite sure of what we wanted.

Theatre room faces North west so extending the alfresco not only gives us a varandah but it will help to shade the room in the summer. And of course the butlers pantry had to be double the original size with a sink and bench. Keen to see it come to life Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68375 Re: Building a Plantation Manhattan Q1 Brisbane.....with pho 9Sep 08, 2014 8:02 am Good luck - its an exciting time. We built with PH and generally happy with outcome. Retaining walls... 10Sep 08, 2014 6:39 pm So these retaining walls have cost a bomb...an arm and a leg in fact! But geez, we must admit they look rock solid and very professionally done and back filled with masses of proper drainage rocks. Did you manage to go halves with your neighbours or did you have to do separate walls again? We still need to do one wall on the higher side of our block which will be done end of this month in sandstone random rocks.. Then next up is fencing - think we are going colorbond! Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68375 Re: Building a Plantation Manhattan Q1 Brisbane.....with pho 12Sep 09, 2014 5:51 am No, we couldnt go halves with either neighbour. The one on the left wanted to do just timber and had to get theirs done before Dixon would start the build. The one on the right would have to have been far too high if we put it on the boundary and that would have been a nightmare to get past council as well as being an eyesore. Sandstone will look great on that side of yours, we like that look too. Check the covenant before you pay for any colourbond though as I am sure we are only allowed timber fencing. Re: Building a Plantation Manhattan Q1 Brisbane.....with pho 13Sep 09, 2014 9:33 am Just checked and you're right - no colorbond fencing allowed.. We even called and double checked just then! Oh well that will save us some money I guess haha we both have tomorrow off work as our RDO's so will check out your land when we pop by our house to check up on painting Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68375 Re: Building a Plantation Manhattan Q1 Brisbane.....with pho 14Sep 09, 2014 6:48 pm We prefer timber fencing but only when it is painted or stained a nice dark colour. And it lets more breeze through too. Enjoy your day off tomorrow, its so exciting going to see your house with each new stage. I called in today and nothing has happened to ours since yesterday. Not sure if the site cut is finished or not, it still looks a bit rough. Re: Building a Plantation Manhattan Q1 Brisbane.....with pho 15Sep 09, 2014 6:57 pm love the plans and your block is awesome congrats Re: Building a Plantation Manhattan Q1 Brisbane.....with pho 17Sep 10, 2014 11:27 am Hey hey Just checked out your block and it looks like they are flattening it today! What they do though is just flatten the area needed for slab - what we did was paid an extra $500 to the earthworks guy and he flattened the whole block back to the fence! Well worth the extra $$ but not sure if you are already doing this but thought id mention it! J Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68375 Re: Building a Plantation Manhattan Q1 Brisbane.....with pho 18Sep 10, 2014 4:47 pm Thanks guys. I called in today to have a look and take some pics. We did wonder whether to get it all levelled but it wont really matter as we have a landscaper doing our backyard for us. We intend to use some of the slope in the design just to make it more interesting. I am a gardener at heart so am looking forward to that part of it. How is the painting going at your house? Are you able to just drop in, will they let you look through? Would be gut wrenching if you couldnt go inside! Re: Building a Plantation Manhattan Q1 Brisbane.....with pho 19Sep 10, 2014 7:06 pm Ah nice! Painting is going good and looking great! Should be all done by Friday! And yeah we just walk on in and they don't seem to care at all haha Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68375 Regardless of wall hung toilet or floor pan toilet your feet will be right on drain, seems to me the waste should not be in that location given the design.
