Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 05, 2008 10:43 am Good morning all,
I was wondering about black colourbond (night sky) and also black window frames, fly screens, etc. I noticed my night sky sample is showing a lot more marks and wear and tear than the other colourbond samples I have. Is this a problem? Does the black mark particularly easily? I was going with night sky guttering and downpipes and black windows, but now I'm worried they'll look scratched and damaged too soon. Does anyone have the black or know of problems? Thanks, Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Black colourbond scratches? 2Jun 05, 2008 10:49 am Jo we've got the C/B Night Sky for the fascias, gutters, windows and rear sliding door as well.
We didn't want any other colour and i'm sure that apart from the fading aspect, it being such a dark colour, it really shouldn't scratch any more than any other colour? It may just be that on the black the marks may be more noticeable than on say a Paperbark sample??? But time will tell...we're not in yet. Re: Black colourbond scratches? 3Jun 05, 2008 10:55 am Phoenix,
You must be psychic, the other sample I have IS paperbark. That's the (potential) fascia colour. I really like the look of the black, I think it adds a bit of drama. I'd be really interested to see how you find it once you're in. Thanks, Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. I’d be more concerned with the fading aspects of the dark colours than scratching. I guess guttering gets knocked by ladders etc, and windows when cleaning, removing fly screens. Actually my brother fits windows etc and keeps telling my they have to touch up the black when they are installed because they scratch and show marks. That's actually what made me look at the sample. But I get the feeling he may be messing with my head and just stressing me for fun, (he does that a lot! ) so I wanted to see what others had to say. Terrence Malick Re: Black colourbond scratches? 9Jun 05, 2008 11:13 am I was up in Mernda the other week (looking at the Sister in-laws block of land) and i saw a few displays with the black guttering. There had been a storm through the day before and all the black guttering had very visible brown streaks of dirt all across them.... kinda of like when you see someone's black car that is in desperate need of a wash!
I don't think you'd get storms like that creating a mess too often... but still... i'd hate to have to mop my gutters! Needless to say, we didn't go with black Alan and Thuy in Melbourne Building a second time! Re: Black colourbond scratches? 10Jun 05, 2008 11:13 am My bro's new house has the same color guttering and windows. They got a little bit scratched during building....but one thing they really show up water marks well....particularly after dust storms or when your building a new garden. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Black colourbond scratches? 11Jun 05, 2008 11:14 am joles Actually my brother fits windows etc and keeps telling my they have to touch up the black when they are installed because they scratch and show marks. for scratches recommended charchol instead if want that dark colour or lots of people use anotec grey I do think black/sort of black windows always look very striking Re: Black colourbond scratches? 18Jun 14, 2008 8:41 pm we've just gone from mountain blue to charcoal. hoping it will look dark bluish with our blue roofing. hope this doesn't mean it will look like black/grey. the "dark grey" seemed even darker. Re: Black colourbond scratches? 19Apr 02, 2012 4:31 pm Thought I would bump this old thread. Does anyone else have any feedback on black window frames? We'll be doing some renos soon and need to add in a new sliding door and I don't know whether to pick black or white. Whatever we choose we will one day update all the other windows in the house (currently silver and not powder-coated).
