Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 361Feb 05, 2016 12:17 pm Has any of that land where your building settled yet heather? We love nearby and are wondering why no building has started there yet. It looks like the land has been ready for ages. We're in massive arguments with council and realty sa at the moment trying to extend the width of our driveway. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 362Feb 05, 2016 12:21 pm Yep jonooo we all settled on November last year, three houses have started two actually got started last year and one slab went down in the last two weeks. We were released for construction over a week ago now so hopefully we will be next off the ranks, do you have to get council approval for a driveway?!! Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 363Feb 05, 2016 12:32 pm Oh cool. That's good news. Are you train station side or shopping centre side? Our driveway invert (the kerb ramp bit) is 4m wide, yet our block is 15m wide and therefore we have a double garage. We want to widen our invert by 1.4m so we can get two cars easily side by side on the driveway and to make up for the fact the invert doesn't quite line up with the middle of our driveway. Council approved it in September, but didn't do the work before Christmas, other than cutting the concrete and bitumen. Now realty sa idiots have seen the cut kerb and road and are butting in and saying we're not allowed to widen our driveway invert as it will 'ruin the look' of the area. Dispite the fact houses built in the previous development - literally 50m down the SAME street all have 6m wide inverts on blocks 15m wide. It's so frustrating as it had absolutely nothing to do with realty sa. We got approved from the council, paid our money and now are being told it's not allowed because of realty sa's cow manure thoughts on what will make the area 'ugly'. Load of political beuracratic rubbish. It makes no sense. If they had made the road wider we wouldn't mind but because the roads are so narrow it gets busy when people park on the roads and we are trying to maximise the space we can park off street. So frustrating. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 364Feb 05, 2016 12:52 pm Hmm not sure where you mean, blakes crossing doesn't have a train station maybe you got the areas mixed up! Lol....sorry to hear of the driveway crap, I love it how developers get involved in everything. I made a complaint to ours about the way the lake has been un cared for and ruining the appeal of the area which it once had and they finally repsonded and got someone on it but I'm only making complaints now before they dare try and say anything about our landscaping when we are finished. Not sure how a wider cross over would look ugly, I'd be asking for examples. Maybe they can't picture what you are talking about Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 366Feb 05, 2016 1:13 pm Haha all good, we are in the north, opposite ends of town lol Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 367Feb 05, 2016 2:43 pm heatherkam Haha fingers crossed indeed on the footings, hope they get it right so you can have your heated flooring! We were about 5k shy on our allowance for the home we are building, is yours a custom or one of their plans? Yes, fingers crossed. We are about 1-2 weeks away from finding out. Ours is a custom plan on a KDR site. It is similar to their grange at the front but thats where the similarities end apart from the overall size. I have a footings design based on a soil test and engineering for an extension that we had costed up, but balked at the cost compared to a new build, so I have an idea on what to expect. Just hoping that our allowance is enough. Here's hoping you see some action on Your site soon! Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 368Feb 05, 2016 3:04 pm We are just about to build with Fairmont at Seaford Meadows. Looking over plans now..... eek Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 369Feb 05, 2016 3:05 pm It's a lovely place to live! We are extremely happy living I. Seaford meadows. Fairmont built our place and we love it. A few issues here and there throughout the process but every builder would have some kind of issues. Try and get a good time-scale and estimation on completion date. Try and find out about hold ups with specific trades to get a better idea when you will be done. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 370Feb 05, 2016 3:07 pm Jonooo Our driveway invert (the kerb ramp bit) is 4m wide, yet our block is 15m wide and therefore we have a double garage. We want to widen our invert by 1.4m so we can get two cars easily side by side on the driveway and to make up for the fact the invert doesn't quite line up with the middle of our driveway. We are planning the same thing. I was just looking at the details about this 2 days ago. It says you can simply request it and they will widen the invert for anyone with a double carport who asks for it. Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 372Feb 05, 2016 3:12 pm Jonooo Where does it say that? And who told you that? Through realty sa or the council? We're having a hell of a time getting it corrected. It was in one of the "design guidelines" or something realty sa gave us, or a pdf from their website. It was in amongst stuff talking about fences, suggested planting trees, stormwater connections to the kerb etc. Sorry i can't recall the actual document, but it was one with a variety of rules and such. It definitely talked about the crossover and the invert and being allowed to widen it. Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 373Feb 05, 2016 3:20 pm From RealtySA "South Design Guidelines Oct 2013" Driveway access locations to each allotment have been predetermined as shown on the relevant Building Envelope Plan. Land SA will provide a paved crossover from the kerb to the front boundary. Driveway widths should not exceed 3m for a single garage/carport and 6m for a double garage/carport driveway. A double driveway should taper in width from a maximum of 6m to 4m at the property boundary. The only exception to this requirement is for garages/carports that front a rear access lane. The location of driveways (i.e. which side of the allotment) have already been determined during the civil design stage. They need to be taken into account when designing the dwelling and cannot be changed. There was somewhere else too where it said about requesting the crossover to be widened, but related to similar topics. I have read so much stuff lately I can't think of where else I saw it Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 374Feb 05, 2016 3:22 pm Hmmm I'll have to look because they are the ones refusing to or not letting us do it. Even at our own expense. I'll look around tonight. We've been having arguments with the council and realty sa since September to get it sorted. Get it all in writing and sorted before you start because once they have your money they will treat you like scum. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 375Feb 05, 2016 3:57 pm @Wilko91 fingers crossed for you, would love to see your plans, I love seeing floor plans lol as impatient as I am I called fairmont earlier and they have assigned a footings contractor and will hear from them just before they start so atleast that is squared away. I'm itchy for this to start so we get keys before Christmas!! 🙏 Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 376Feb 05, 2016 4:02 pm I'm pretty worried now about the driveway I had been out and measured a couple of driveway inverts and they are indeed 6m. I might have misread what was in the design guidelines. I thought you could widen a standard 4m one to 6m like the ones I had seen in person. Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 378Feb 05, 2016 6:58 pm We have just begun construction at Seaford Meadows - Cook Street and I have been impressed with the way the suburb has come together. I think I see what you are getting at Jonoo but would it be possible to post a photo of your driveway issue? Like MJT I now feel a little worried as we also have a double garage.
