Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 341Jan 03, 2016 6:45 pm Hey does anyone know how much fairmont charge for the timber stain panel gilde roller doors at all? We have a panel glide but assume to have it stained and not regular colour option that it would be an upgrade Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 343Jan 03, 2016 11:18 pm Mmm it's tough, we have final interview in just over a week and trying to settle on our facade. The hardest part of the whole thing I reckon we have struggled the time and have only.just decided on our brick and render choice....grrr, thanks for the info hopefully we have a good choice in stain colours then for that price! Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 344Jan 04, 2016 8:52 am We just upgraded the door profile as the standard door is the one with the square shapes on it but we wanted just the smooth panels (hope that makes sense!) and this on its own was a $300 upgrade. Also just to give you the heads up I think I remember reading in a previous post of yours that you also upgraded the paint. We also did this however when I went to select a white paint I was told I could have this on the walls as the upgrade we paid was on the wall paint only but if I wanted that same white colour on the skirting boards that this would be an additional cost. By this stage I'd had enough of the additional costs so selected another colour. Just make sure you go into your final interview prepared that there will be additional costs, luckily for us we had included a lot of upgrades in our quote but there were still a few things that in the grand scheme were small costs but these all add up quick. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 345Jan 04, 2016 11:31 am Thanks Lewiston, we wanted to upgrade the profile too, not sure if we will still do that as it seems there is only two colour choices with timber finish in the range and I'm not excited about either of the for the price! Yes we did upgrade the paint but I would have thought this would include the skirtings etc, bloody ridiculous if they want to charge more for only the walls....I feel like we have upgraded so much in the quote would be scarey to think there is much left, I have an inkling that if they hit us with too many hidden extras I will start complaining bout things that have been neglected in our quote ie fibre optic questions that have not been addressed or answered, make them work hard for this money they might hit us with! Hopefully we are fully prepared, but time will tell I guess, thanks for the advice Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 346Jan 05, 2016 10:52 am heatherkam Hey does anyone know how much fairmont charge for the timber stain panel gilde roller doors at all? It seems there is only two colours to choose from is that right?! Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 348Jan 05, 2016 8:46 pm Interesting to compare ... Ours was an extra $465 with Simonds and we had a choice of two 'timber' colours too. Dark (Cacoba) and mid (Cedar) standard was a choice of any colorbond colour. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 349Jan 05, 2016 9:09 pm We can choose any colour bond colour as standard but the two you have mentioned are an upgrade aswell. I also just looked on the a and l website who supply the windows etc and I don't.think I can get them to match, may just stick with the colourbond colours but windows are going to be an issue it's seems not many colours are available here in South Australia ie surmist would have been great! ? Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 350Jan 06, 2016 7:19 am Surfmist windows do look great. shame Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 351Jan 06, 2016 11:40 pm We had loads of trouble with questions about fibre optic allowances. No one seemed to know anything about what was required. Luckily I have a friend who is an electrician and explained it to us. Saved loads of money. Basically all you need (well all we needed in seaford meadows) is a conduit that runs from where the fibre optic cable enters the home to where you want the NBN hardware to be installed. NBN co then came and connected us from the entry point to where our hardware was to go in our store room. It's my understanding it can be done by an electrician or NBN co after but it's harder and may cost more. Just get the conduit to where you want it - all the other stupid costs Fairmont try to charge is a rip off and you don't need it - unless you want them to do all your wiring for Ethernet points as well, however this will most likely be cheaper to get an electrician to do after you move in as well. Painting costs are a joke - and the standard of our painting is even more of a joke. We are so unhappy with the finish of all of our paint work. We will be asking for a 'please explain' as our 6 months is coming up soon. There are patches that have clearly only had one coat of paint (back of toilet door) places which have not been painted over after holes filled. It's a horrible mess. I wish we had the luxury of time to check over properly before hand over. We picked up lots then but there is much more which we missed in our walk through. I can't believe they want to charge so much extra for paint selection when they should really get in decent painters first and then worry about paint costs. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 352Jan 07, 2016 9:09 pm Thanks jonooo we have allowed for conduit luckily but no allowance for Ethernet ports etc, so think we will have some after handover stuff to do, they don't se interested in helping us any further than that. we upgrade our paint so hoping no issues with this as it wasn't cheap! Just wondering if you remember who you had your final interview with at all? Was it a good experience or stressful? Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 353Jan 07, 2016 10:53 pm I don't remember the name. It was a lady though and she was really nice and helpful. We were stressed at the beginning but got more relaxed as we went along. I guess you need a level of confidence as there are things that the salesperson would have forgotten to mention. Stand your ground though and if it was a salesperson error mention that and point it out - we found they were quite accommodating. Our salesperson for example allowed for lots more power points and lights than standard - however he didn't allow for extra circuit breakers or something and we didn't find it fair we had to pay for those seeing as they should be part of having power to the house so we stood our ground and it was included eventually. Same with colorbond facias and gutters - not standard however we were not told by the same person and we assumed they were. Most electricians will be able to do Ethernet after hand over. Our sparkie is excellent and I'd be more than happy to reccomend him If you need a good one after hand over. He did all of our down lights, ceiling fans, outdoor lights, Ethernet, antenna, TV points, tv conduits and more for less than TF electrical (through Fairmont) wanted to charge just for down lights. He was here three days with an apprentice and it came to around 2k from memory including all of the downlights (around 15-20), front sensor light and other bits and pieces like dimmer switches, we did supply all other fixtures and fans. The electrical layout we were more nervous about but Sam our sparkie helped with that too a bit. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 354Jan 10, 2016 8:10 pm Glad to hear it got easier as you went along, we are nervous about final colours. We are almost sure of what we want now, hopefully they won't rush us too much and no nasty surprises, we have moved out of our home now as settlement is this week so It's getting real now! Hope you are loving your new home, I have seen a few nice houses on Instagram and reckon I have seen a couple of yours come up, thank goodness for hashtags aye!! Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 355Jan 13, 2016 4:18 pm heatherkam Thanks, that would be great, also which colour did you choose? It seems there is only two colours to choose from is that right?! It was around an extra $600 which included the electronic lift system with 2 remotes Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 357Feb 03, 2016 2:11 pm So, found out that Sunray Heating and Cooling have done underfloor heating for Fairmont previously. My sales guy said they would charge ~$500 to let them come and install which is ridiculous. Might just have a quiet word to the site supervisor if we go ahead and do this. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 358Feb 03, 2016 7:15 pm Sounds fancy, I only see under floor heating on grand designs Australia, I thought about an air con vent in my ensuite for hot days with the hair straightener but never considered the cold in that room! I'm surprised they even quoted you on installing it, thought it would be something they would say no to, are you going to go ahead with it? Can't wait to follow your build sounds like you have some cool ideas Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 359Feb 04, 2016 12:33 pm It's not the full on hydronic heating but just the electric for bathrooms. Came in at a reasonable price as well which will be within budget pending footings variation which we should receive in the next fortnight or so. Fingers crossed. Not sure if I will do a thread, I will keep it in mind as I do get a bit of a kick out of reading how others are going. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 360Feb 05, 2016 12:12 pm Haha fingers crossed indeed on the footings, hope they get it right so you can have your heated flooring! We were about 5k shy on our allowance for the home we are building, is yours a custom or one of their plans?
