Was the waterfall edges joined using a mitred joint (mitred being diagonal) or a butt joint (butt being the slab sitting on top of the waterfall edges)? It is quite a large difference between to the two in terms of the join looking seamless. Checking to see whether anyone had this option or what the norm is? Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 45Oct 16, 2014 8:43 pm We asked about this, they refused to do a mitred joint, said it was too hard... No comment on that haha. The slab end is a huge ripoff too. Just have to bend over and take what you're given with Fairmont. If you want better stuff you have to use a bespoke builder. That said there is no real reason Fairmont couldn't do it. No confidence the tradies they employ if you ask me. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 46Oct 16, 2014 8:50 pm We have stone waterfall bench tops with a mitred edge. No one at supreme kitchens asked us what we wanted so I assume mitred is the standard with stone bench tops? Disagree with your comments feroshious. Fairmont will do 'better stuff' but you have to ask lot's of questions and be prepared to fight for what you want. As for tradies I met all of ours and they were great, they were the best bit (I and building inspector thought) about Fairmont. You could have a better experience with a bespoke builder but at a significantly higher cost. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 47Oct 16, 2014 8:56 pm I should clarify. If you want nicer stuff through Fairmont the prices are excessive.
Laminate vs stone is a different ballgame. If you push for a butt joint with laminate in theory they should, but they will charge through the nose though. After doing the run around we found out it was cheaper for Fairmont to build a standard kitchen, and us to tear that out and build a new one after. Use the old kitchen benchtop as a laundry bench or outdoor kitchen. I don't question the quality, friends have built with them and 95% of stuff has been great. If there was a mistake they have take ownership of it and fixed it. EDIT: If you do go from Laminate to Stone make sure they reinforce the island. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 49Oct 16, 2014 9:06 pm Your right they do charge once you start upgrading but we still found them to be cheaper than all the other builders we got quotes from (with the same upgrades). Agreed about doing stuff after build and being cheaper but that goes for every builder. If I could afford it I would get a shell built and fit it out myself with my own choice of trades and products. Getting them to fit a standard kitchen and upgrade after as you did is another great idea if you have the cash. Bench tops and doors to cabinetry can easily be replaced. We opted to have the builder do it all but that's because we wanted it included in the mortgage and it was the easiest way of doing it Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 50Oct 16, 2014 9:51 pm Hi FairmontSAcustom Is it possible to post a picture of your join? Only now have I known the difference between the two joins and it is very big in terms of look and quality. I have also just found out that the Polar White does not come with acrylic edging via these forums, which is disappointing as we were told it did and it was included as a variation. If this was advised during selections we would have chosen a different color as the acrylic edging in my opinion makes a significant difference in the look of the benchtop. Did you have the diamondgloss laminate and do you have a building blog by any chance? Sorry for the million questions. Find below a copy of the join in question: https://flic.kr/p/pppJXc Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 51Oct 16, 2014 9:59 pm I will take a pic tomorrow. We have engineered stone bench tops. Trying to think if any of the other fairmont builds had laminate waterfall edges but none is coming to mind. You could give supreme kitchens a call and ask what there standard is. If you paid for a variation and have not received it then you should have a case to get them to fix it. Might be easier to contact supreme direct than go through fairmont. We had supreme out a few times to fix things such as doors not closing smoothly and pull out bin not working. We found them to be helpful and keen to fix any problems we had even if it took a few visits. Such a shame when you don't get what you think you are going to. They should ask what profile you want but they don't Although we do have laminate in our laundry (no waterfall edge) and I remember the consultant asking if we wanted the square edge profile rather than the rounded one which we did. I did have a thread on here, I can post link tomorrow if you don't find it in the meantime. Your pic link is not working for me. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 53Oct 17, 2014 10:22 am That pic works. Not sure if I am being helpful but I actually don't mind the join. Anyway here is a pic of mine for comparison. http://i894.photobucket.com/albums/ac146/MDCL77/20141017_095304_zpsdbb07a80.jpg http://i894.photobucket.com/albums/ac146/MDCL77/3aFultonPlace_3162_zps2823c0cb.jpg Link to thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63538 Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 54Oct 17, 2014 11:25 am Hi all, Hoping someone who has a completed house with Fairmont could give me some help. We have been told today that it is likely our house will be delayed by about 7-8 weeks (inc Christmas closure) from our PCI which was November 17th . This PCI has already had an extra 8 weeks added to it on top of the "18 week build time guarantee". So, my question is has anyone else experienced how Fairmont deals with such large, obscene delays? Do they compensate you at all with a credit of some sort on your final progress payment? Feel like i'm totally out of my depth here but I recall our salesman mentioning something about this when we first enquired about Fairmont. I appreciate any advice! Thanks! Thank you fairmontsacustom for sending that through. That is the join I was hoping for. It looks a whole lot smoother! Especially when dealing with laminates. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 56Oct 17, 2014 3:18 pm Yeah that's correct- they told me 2 weeks for flooring after PCI today but they're now saying another 3 weeks as well as the initial 2 to finish painting and tiling (only our bathrooms are being tiled) Fairmont Homes Contract signed: July 2013 Slab: May 2014 Frame: July 2014 Roof: 1/8/14 1st fix electrical: 24/9/14 Gyprock: 29/9/14 Brickwork completed: 6/10/14 Handover: 14/12/14 Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 57Oct 17, 2014 3:29 pm I will pm you Erin.
