Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 181May 22, 2015 6:16 pm Don't get me started on seaford meadows footings costs MaeC! There should never be surprises like yours seeing as Fairmont have access to realtysa soil tests. It's an absolute joke! Having said that congratulations on your slab! Doesn't take too long from there. Hopefully the Brick layer shortage has sorted itself out and you don't have too much down time. We got a call this week from direct interiors saying our wet area tiles we chose in October were un available so we had to. Goose new ones this week. That was two days of stress I could have done without! All sorted in the end, staff at direct were fantastic even though their system for ordering tiles is a bit **** and we only had a weeks notice to select new ones as they need to be on site! Looks like we will be at lock up this week supreme also called and said our sink was there after we delivered the exhaust fan to them last week. It comes together quick after it starts pending brickies! Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 182May 23, 2015 2:44 pm Thanks Jonooo! How long does it take them to start frames? Sucks about the tiles. There was only a couple that I liked so hope they have them at the time! Your house is looking great. Like what you have chosen. Anybody able to tell me how realistic is the anticipated completion date? Ours is said to be Dec 3rd plus 20 days because Fairmonts doing stormwater so idk how that works with Christmas being so close. I hope we get keys before Christmas! Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 183May 23, 2015 8:41 pm Our frame went up about 3-4 weeks after the pour of the concrete I think. We stressed about tiles to as there were only a couple we really liked too, we were lucky the could get in our second choice or I don't know what we would have done as all the other tiles and vanity depend on the floor tile! Crisis averted though luckily. We're hoping our estimated date is still on track as my wife is due to give birth a month after our estimated date! Our site supervisor sounded optimistic last we spoke to him even with the brick layer delay. Our kitchen should go in two or so weeks after our discussion with supreme today when we went and picked up our sink accessories so hopefully it all happens soon! Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 184May 23, 2015 9:11 pm Thanks Heather I went to the house today and very relieved to say that my stormwater has been fixed, down pipes fixed, meter box fixed and flashing done! So the major things that I have been stressing about for a couple of weeks now all done The other things are more cosmetic so not such a stress point with those. Sorry to hear about your tiles Jonooo, I have heard about that happening before though but would be very disappointing. MaeC my revised completion date is five weeks away, (ahead of schedule by a couple of weeks!) my slab was poured November, Frame up in January bricks done February, kitchen/cupboards/vanitys installed early April. I try and go there before work and catch the tradies there then. They are kind enough to let me have a quick look through
Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 188May 23, 2015 9:41 pm That's a bonus! Ours should be locked up next week and were dreading it not being able to look in every weekend to see what we are paying for! Makes it much more exciting to be able to see what's happening. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 189May 23, 2015 9:45 pm I can see everything through the windows anyway, have lots of windows only thing I can't see is the vanity and main bathroom/toilet but yeah lockup is a good and bad stage hehe Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 191May 24, 2015 8:17 pm Looks very nice @caprimk3 I remember seeing this display home, when you got your ceiling put at 2.7 did they increase your doorway height as standard? Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 192May 24, 2015 8:19 pm No they don't increase door height as standard. We had to ask for the door height to be increased and the doors cost more. We did not realise until after it had been approved by council so we only increased internal door height. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 193May 24, 2015 9:13 pm Did they charge you to make.this change? @fairmontsacustom Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 194May 24, 2015 10:26 pm Not to make the change to internal doors, if we had changed exterior doors/windows because it was so late in the process I think they would have charged us. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 195May 24, 2015 10:34 pm Ok so it might not be too late, I guess we will go back to our sales person to gent this looked at. I forgot about a certain window I wanted changed and now that I have already signed the contract I guess it's to late for that too so annoyed I forgot and now I fear I can't do anything about it (without paying $550) to make that change!! Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 196May 24, 2015 10:38 pm If the plans have not to gone to council yet you should be right, best as you say to talk to sale rep, fingers crossed! I was a bit annoyed at first about external windows/doors but now that I am in the house I realise it's not a big deal Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 197May 24, 2015 10:42 pm Oh really, I might try then, I don't think it's with council, we don't have a title on our land so I don't think they can yet. The window i want to shorten will let me make another kitchen cupboard so I'm kind of hoping she will do It if not then I guess it's not all that detrimental. Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 198May 25, 2015 10:01 am Hey guys, I built with fairmont last year and I just quietly lurk now but thought I would help with some footings fear (I remember that vividly). We were quoted $12,000 and our footings came back at $12,600. Our site has h1 soil and is a p site due to a tree at the back. Very flat block on the adelaide plains though. Our only surprise was $1,500 for wind speed but after living here a while we have seen that was a genuine cost as we do get quite gusty winds a fair bit. Hope that helps. Our sales lady just included an extra 2k to our footing allowance to help us sleep better so with 24k for footings we are feeling a bit better about that now! Still scary time and as they dont have site access until June we have to wait a while longer! Re: Fairmont Home builders - South Australia 200May 25, 2015 11:21 am We built at mallala. It is a stressful time. We held our breaths for weeks while waiting for the costs as someone down the other end of our road paid $40,000. Hoping for a good outcome for you.
