Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 26, 2014 12:08 am Hi, wondering if anyone can pls offer some advice about our tiles in our almost finished house? We didn't know we had to ask for mitred edges and there was no mention of it along the way. However it just looks so bad to me that I wonder how builder can be ok about handing over like this...pics don't do justice really. Esp our ensuite nib wall some tiles have the terracotta edge facing one way then next tile it's not there so the edging doesn't even match - not that we like the terracotta edge! Wondering any opinions on this pls?? Builder said we can just contact tiler direct to re do and pay him direct about 700bucks to re-do the tiles in ensuite and we 'd have to buy more tiles. Or they raise a variation to get it redone but we'd have to pay a builders margin then. Feedback appreciated thanks pics below I hope http://s1380.photobucket.com/user/jouknow/library/ Re: Advice pls about tiles 2Aug 26, 2014 12:22 am I agree. That it doesn't look right. My only thought that might save you money is perhaps painting it or grouting over it. Otherwise I'd pay the $700. I've never seen that before. Or what about a silver edge? Or is that the mired edge you referred to? The silver edge is quite difficult to get right. I don't know that I'd trust them to do it properly. Our silver edged nib wall still needs some work and our tiler was very experienced. He said to us it was quite fiddly. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ keep us updated. Re: Advice pls about tiles 3Aug 26, 2014 1:02 am I had the same issue first time i built. I wasn't aware that mitred tiles wasn't standard, and at no point during the sales process or at prestart was it mentioned. When i did the PCI i asked the SS and he just said thats standard, and if i wanted it changed i should have requested it and paid the extra. Ultimately i was quite lucky as there were only a few spots it was visible and the tiles were black. So the SS painted the edge of the tile to cover it up. Still noticable, but better than it was previously. Re: Advice pls about tiles 5Aug 26, 2014 3:11 pm it sucks when they don't tell you about this type of stuff, you think they would ask since it would mean that you will send more money Re: Advice pls about tiles 6Aug 26, 2014 3:36 pm have you consider getting aluminum tile trim installed? im installing it in my house and it only cost $30 for a 3 meter length and you install it on every corner. go to the link for images. http://blog.hgtvremodels.com/2012/09/17 ... etal-trim/ Re: Advice pls about tiles 7Aug 26, 2014 4:18 pm That's what I have dannislade.
