Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 24, 2014 11:52 pm Hi everyone, love this forum and have been on here a while now but this is my first post.
I haven't seen many homestart builds on here so hope this may be of interest to someone. We are building the accolade on a 580m2 corner block in the melros estate dawesville, this is our first build. When we first me the sales rep we worked out how much we could borrow, we then chose the biggest house they did on the biggest block that was within our budget. We have just gone with the basic inclusions apart from some electrical upgrades which were reasonably priced and would have cost more to do after handover. Have to say that so far everyone at homestart have been great and we have had no issues. I will try to post some pics. 28/01/14 went to see the block 30/01/14 deposits paid 20/02/14 site survey 04/03/14 first set of plans 26/03/14 building permit 16/05/14 finance pre-approval and house plans signed 05/06/14 finance approval 19/06/14 prestart and signed electrical upgrades 25/06/14 land settlement end of july site scrape/compaction 17/08/14 footings dug/ pipes in 22/08/14 slab complete 18/10/14 bricks started 30/10/14 bricks complete 28/11/14 roof timbers started 23/1/14 roof tiles complete 04/02/15 rendering, white set and windows complete locked up ceilings painted doors on bricks cleaned 22/03/15 toilets and taps fitted (between 07:00 - 09:00) This is the accolade by homestart Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This was the first visit to the block, we had looked at other areas but this felt right. Re: homestart the accolade dawesville 2Aug 28, 2014 7:35 pm Prestart took us less than an hour - with a basic package there is limited choice but this is our first house and we didn't expect a lot. I don't like the idea of paying out dosh for something that I can do myself, that's why we went with the basic package. Here are some of the selections - sorry no pics. Pavers vistapave - stormcloud Affinity windows - black Garage door - settler style wood grain - colour monument Harmony roof tiles - alpine - jet stone Kitchen worktop - formica cuban wood - velour Kitchen cabinets - formica cuban wood gloss Bathroom tops - formica snow elm velour Bathroom cabinets - formica snow elm gloss Tiles bathroom/ on-suite/ laundry- seranit arc black (walls and floor) Tiles kitchen wall - black gloss Front door - cant remember the style but its painted close to monument The showers have a curtain pole, that made me laugh - another job for the list Vinyl flooring throughout - we had to choose something (keystart requirement) not a massive carpet fan (have kids) I will remove this after handover and put something else down - I really like epoxy resin flooring, I have been told to try out the garage floor first. That's about all I can remember for now, please feel free to comment, would love to hear from anyone who has built the same or similar design. Re: homestart the accolade dawesville 3Aug 28, 2014 8:49 pm Following, we too are building on a corner block in Dawesville my build thread is below. Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: homestart the accolade dawesville 6Sep 27, 2014 1:21 am Hi alrightdave great to see a fellow homestart builder on here we are building "the Cove" in alkimos, atelier and just waiting for land settlement. We havent done pre-start yet we are patiently waiting for it... just wanted to ask a few question (okay..maybe more ) what happens after PPA? Do you get a copy of the plan that you chose on the mail? Because we are wanting to choose tiles and floorings from their nominated companies. Did you chose everything from prestart?. I read that your shower doesnt have shower doors? Ours came with it standard..hopefully or ill be annoyed. Anyway so sorry for all these questions. The more the days go pass the more overwhelmed i get. TIA our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=73578 Re: homestart the accolade dawesville 7Sep 27, 2014 5:46 pm Hi squidster, I like the cove, went to the display home - it looks nice. You should get a copy of your plans in the post, might have to wait for them to be drawn up. With your prestart selections there is nothing to stop you now from going to the suppliers and making your choices, all you do at prestart is confirm everything. Have you started a blog yet? Re: homestart the accolade dawesville 8Sep 27, 2014 6:12 pm Bit of an update.. A few weeks ago we were advised that our first choice of brick was no longer available (brikmakers tourmaline) and were asked if we were happy to go with our second choice (brindle). We didn't really like the brindle and as it turns out this is also discontinued. Long story short we have chosen a new colour which has not long been added to the range (shale). Anyone who has to choose from brikmakers I would suggest that you visit their website as there are a few more lines discontinued and if you have already done prestart this will effect all you colour selections. Anyway went to the site today to have a little look and soak wells have been done, we have a shed, sand, power box and bricks have been delivered. Should have brickies real soon. Thanks for the reply i really appreciate it. We havent got any plans on the mail yet.. We were wanting to change the garage to extend it, we hope it wont be a problem. We've also been trying to get a hold of our housing consultant about the issue but havent heared from her either. Crossing our fingers on this one! By the way that shale bricks, im liking on them!:) are they using white or cream mortar? Anyway looking forward on your build. I will start doing my build blog as soon as we get things goin starting from our plan. Thank you again! our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=73578 Re: homestart the accolade dawesville 10Oct 07, 2014 10:15 pm Hi alrightdave any progress on the build yet? our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=73578 Re: homestart the accolade dawesville 11Oct 07, 2014 10:46 pm Hi, brickies should start within the next 2-3 weeks, apparently there is a delay between sites getting loaded with bricks and the brickies starting. Homestarts policy is to not give updates, you have to e-mail them, I'm not too worried though. Re: homestart the accolade dawesville 12Oct 07, 2014 11:33 pm Thats great! cant wait to see the rest of the updates our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=73578 Re: homestart the accolade dawesville 13Oct 18, 2014 8:19 pm Decided to go for a little drive to the block today and was pleased to see that the brickies have made a start. Re: homestart the accolade dawesville 14Oct 18, 2014 9:21 pm Exciting! We just got our slab, a lot of building going on in Dawesville at the moment. Did you hear a Coles is going to be built on the ocean side? As well as the IGA/Chemmart opening in January. Hoping a sign of things to come for Dawesville! Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: homestart the accolade dawesville 15Oct 18, 2014 10:19 pm Thanks for the reply, yeah there is definitely more building going on down there compared to when we first went to see the block. It's such a nice area though, and the prices are good.
