Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 09, 2009 2:07 pm I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on coastal conditions for a new house. I am going to build in Old Halls Head in Mandurah and the block is about 700m from the beach. Ross North have said it will cost $3500 for 'coastal conditions'. This treats the house against corrosion by galvanising metals etc. I thought colorbond was treated metal already? And i have seen that the stainless steel colorbond for extreme coastal conditions is for houses 100-200m of the breaking surf. Any help would be appreciated. Re: Coastal Conditions 2Sep 09, 2009 3:27 pm Hi. We're also building a new house near the beach. We're being charged an extra $2,520 for building in a marine environment, although we were able to get away with using general purpose bricks rather than exposure grade as the beach is fairly protected. Our tender only mentions exposed and enclosed steel plus brick and expansion ties so I'm not too sure about the colorbond steel. Not sure if this is of any help Re: Coastal Conditions 3Sep 09, 2009 4:45 pm if you have a look on the colourbond website it also asks if you are within 5 km of the beach if so, some colorbond options arent reccommended. also there are small things too etc you will need stainless steel brick ties Living in Caloundra Thread****** Lovin my house all finished!!!
