Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 11, 2014 12:15 pm Hi, I will be building the Monterey Lux Q1 with Henley. I have my colour appointment in 2 weeks and am feeling very overwhelmed with what to choose. My first issue is flooring. From what I have read I have been put off using Henley's UTF flooring and think I may do my own flooring. Has anyone else done this? Pros? Cons? Or has anyone installed the laminate flooring through Henley and had no issues? Is there anything else I should be considering? My second issue is kitchen appliances. Again I have read negative things about the Technika ovens supplied. I am therefore looking to upgrade these. I know that they also offer Bosch, Miele and Smeg. I was thinking Bosch would be the next level up price wise. Has anyone upgraded their appliances? Approximate costs? Was also thinking about only upgrading the ovens (I'm doing 2 wall ovens) and leaving the cooktop and rangehood as is. Do you think this would look strange? Again any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated. I'll start with these 2 questions as they are my biggest issue but there are many more..........hahaha Thanks in advance!!! Re: Henley Monterey Lux Q1 - Flooring and Appliances 2Aug 14, 2014 2:11 pm Hi, I can't really answer your questions, we are still deciding what to build. We had our heart set on the Lux but its just a bit too wide for our block so we are opting for the Belle Q2 now. We got the flooring included in our initial quote, just timber laminate and carpet, we have 3 small kids that will trash it so we are not looking for anything great. We also only heard bad things about the appliances but have decided to just get them and when they die we will replace them with something if and when it happens. Have you made any other changes to the plan? We cant decided where to put the laundry, there is pros and cons for it being in either position. We also want to add cavity slider doors to the Theatre and maybe the pantry. If we go with the Belle Q2 we are adding 1 meter length to the childrens room wing to add 500mm to beds 2 and 3 as they are a bit small. Cant wait to see what colours you choose Re: Henley Monterey Lux Q1 - Flooring and Appliances 3Aug 19, 2014 1:13 pm Hi, Thanks for the reply The Belle 2 is beautiful aswell - nearly the same really - lol. I've been doing a bit more research and have decided to do the flooring myself. It is more expensive but I am going to get vinyl plank flooring. I have a toddler and 2 dogs so this seems like the best option for us. Fairly indesructable and looks great! I have also decided to upgrade my appliances to Bosch. I have been looking around and have found the models that I am happy with and the ones that have the cheapest RRP (lol). I will ask Henley to include them and then at tender see what the actual cost is. If it's too expensive I might just stick with the Bosch ovens and keep Technika for everything else, otherwise I'll just downgrade everything back to Technika. I spent a couple of hours at Cosham on Sunday and I think I know the colours I am going with for the bathrooms and kitchen. It's very exciting, but again everything is more $$ so will need to see what the final figure is. I swapped the laundry and theatre room position so that the laundry is next to the garage. I was a bit worried about the noise filtering out to both living areas when the washing machine and dryer are on. Plus I an using the theatre as a play room for my son so I can keep an eye on him better from the kitchen with this position. I have also added double sliding doors to this room to shut off all his toys and mess The other changes I have made are - doors to ensuite, have requested to change position of manhole to laundry, heating vent to bathroom and exhaust fan in laundry. Good luck with your choices - keep me updated! Re: Henley Monterey Lux Q1 - Flooring and Appliances 4Aug 19, 2014 4:43 pm Yes I think we will put the laundry near the garage too. We will also use the theatre as the kids play room and I love that you can see in from the kitchen. We also added a heating vent to the bathroom but didn't think of a fan in the laundry, we will have to add that as I use the dryer a lot. I asked about moving the man hole and they said it was in the powder room to get easy access to something in the roof there, can't remember what it was exactly now. Might have to ask about that again. Are you getting the Tibmer and glass doors to the pantry and laundry like in the display? we were hoping too and to the theatre room too but the cost keeps creeping up so it maybe the first of the things that we have to drop. Re: Henley Monterey Lux Q1 - Flooring and Appliances 5Aug 20, 2014 12:26 pm Sounds like we are thinking alike I'm getting the timber and glass door to the pantry only. Figured that changing the laundry position that the door didn't matter too much. That's interesting about the manhole. I haven't had a definite answer yet. It's in my quote but it could change at tender. Are there any other things you are changing or adding? My colour appointment is next Thursday. Getting very excited!!! Re: Henley Monterey Lux Q1 - Flooring and Appliances 6Aug 20, 2014 1:43 pm Haha yes I was also thinking of putting a normal door on the laundry if it's next to the garage too as it's more in the hall way then. Our quote included an extra 500mm to the grand alfreso to make it a 2m area and we adding 2 m extension to the garage. Probably timber front windows and evaporate air. Also shower niches the green living deal, flooring, colourbond roof and sarking, garage step down (86cm) eaves 450mm, water point to behind fridge and alfresco, 2x banks of pot drawers, the big electricity pack, 40mm bench top to island in the kitchen (and if we can afford it one waterfall edge) I think that's about it. We wanted to put a sink in the butlers pantry and do an under mount sink in the island but i don't think they will fit in the budget. Not sure on what to put in the laundry yet either.
