Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 18, 2015 1:00 pm Hi, due to the apparent nature of the package we're taking with our builder, they will no let us install our own flooring. They are literally forcing us to lay their flooring option, which as soon as handover happens we'll have to rip up and lay our preferred flooring option (at this stage we're looking at Bamboo floorboards). Has anyone else encountered this? I'm extremely frustrated, not to mention it is going to be such a huge waste of materials to lay an entire house with flooring that will be ripped up immediately. Any advice would be appreciated. Re: Builder forcing us to go with their flooring options 4Jan 18, 2015 2:44 pm I haven't signed anything yet, planning to this week if all goes to plan. I don't have a financial arrangement in place, but the sales consultant said they 'can't get sign off without the flooring installed' so that could be in reference to the broker we're signing up with - it's the broker the builder partner with. Re: Builder forcing us to go with their flooring options 6Feb 27, 2015 9:59 pm Are you proposing to have them build and you install floors after handover? Not sure that's possible for c of o or for your vals for draw down of your final payment but i could be wrong. Why not go with a builder who'll include your preferred flooring as a part of the build contract? Re: Builder forcing us to go with their flooring options 8Mar 01, 2015 9:25 am So you compromised and paid the an upgrade for the pleasure? Looks like that outcome was by design. Is the compromise in the same ballpark in costs as your first preferred option? Creator of superduperonium, expert at expert things, nobel laureate, can hold my breath for 10 minutes. Re: Builder forcing us to go with their flooring options 10Mar 01, 2015 1:58 pm Lol sorry i should have been clearer - the compromise was actually with my husband. We ended up not having to pay for the upgrade due to some great wheeling and dealing on his behalf.
