Re: Building in Aveley - Living, one year on...

Cheers everyone,

I've been lazy in the weekend so I didn't update on Friday....we had more bricks done and the SS told us that the bricks should be finished sometime middle of this week, then roofing will start

I did, however, manage to capture an interior walk through during the weekend. I've not had the chance to find a video editing program that would let me label the video so I can describe the rooms as I walk through, but will do that once I have some time

Also please ignore the crunching sounds as I tread on sand, broken bricks, plastic straps, the odd empty mountain dew can etc etc

Quick rundown:
Main entry - Theatre - Garage Entry - Study - Dining - Living - Kitchen - Scullery/Laundry - Bedrooms Hallway - Bedroom 2 - Bedroom 3 - Powder Room - Bathroom - Walk in Linen - Bedroom 4 - Master Bedroom - Ensuite and back out again.

Thanks jlo1990, we are biting our nails and eager for the next stage to start. Our poor brickies lost their labourer and therefore that held up the work. Apparently it is hard to find good (and reliable) help these days...

Update: Bricks Day 23 & 24 - 7 & 11 May 2015

Today we got our Scullery walls done! I think with this wall completed, the interior is pretty much done

We also had a site clean done! Quite a lot of rubble and stuff cleared from inside and out. I can finally see more of the future Study, looking out to the main street:

Tomorrow there will be a crane onsite to lift some of the beams and the highlight window into position. Hope to be able to catch it onsite for a few photos before I head off to work!

Loving the walkthroughs. Am going to have to do this for my folks back in the UK!

We love the colour of the face bricks too! Perhaps some inspiration was drawn from the earthly tone of several of Frank Lloyd Wright's houses:

Thanks trixee, I hope that the weather "somehow" changes and it's not a heavy downpour/thunderstorms... kids' sports and all those weekendy stuff need to be done!



He is considered one of America's greatest architects. I love his concept of organic architecture, where buildings seem to grow out of their environment and also his way of bringing the outside in...I began to get interested in his architecture after visiting Taliesin West in Arizona in 2005 and what better time to incorporate details from some of his houses than in the one we are building

Work begins on the brick support for the skillion roof in the Theatre and Main Entry area. This is the view from outside the Theatre:

This is the highlight window above the main entry door which will go all the way up to the ceiling. We are so pleased to see it has been installed today...can't wait till it's sides are bricked up completely:
