BTW, I can see that what your SS said appears to be a reasonable response. However, I would go and check some cavity doors at various places. I'm pretty sure that the nominated measurement is for the "cavity" not the "door".

I wouldn't be "betting my house on it" though and if this was happening to me right now then I would be going off to double-check this before demanding a change! :-)

Hi clintdb from the plan it would seem that it isn't a cavity slider but a pelmet one, we'll have the same. This is because in WA we have double brick construction and don't have cavities as standard. In fact if we want cavity sliders it costs a lot of extra money! On our plans with a different builder we also have 870 sliding door with 800 opening - so I guess it will be 820 frame.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions, it is greatly appreciated. I should have mentioned earlier that the sliding door is not the cavity type but the pelmet type.

A cavity door would have been our first choice, but like MalSannie mentioned, there was quite a bit of extra cost to that option so we decided to go with the pelmet type sliding door.

After chatting with a few people, we have sort of accepted that 820 frame and 870 door is ok, but we had wished that in the beginning it had been made known to us that 870 would be the door size and that we won't be getting an 870 frame. Sliding doors/frames are measured differently, so anyone else who is considering sliding doors, please note :::

Which leads us to another issue...the scullery door, which is also a sliding door....

As you can see from the scullery plan above, we have an "820" door. When we measured the door frame that has been erected on site, the frame is an 820 frame. If we apply the SS reply for the ensuite sliding door to the scullery door, the scullery door should read "870" on the plan instead of "820" since an 820 frame has already been erected.

We assume that there might be an error on the plan in regards to the scullery door and will discuss with the SS when we meet him next.

Thanks for the correction there MalSannie. I obviously didn't look at the plans properly!
As you have said, the pelmet-hung door would likely be measured as a normal door - by noting the door size itself (and not the opening size).

Having said that, Hootie has found an exception to this on site already - so now I'm going to throw up my hands and officially say "I don't know" :-)

Hootie, when you raise it with the SS - just make sure he doesn't take out your 820 Scullery frame and replace it with a 770 one

Absolutely clintdb, we will make sure that the 820 door frame is not swapped for a smaller one. I believe the error on the plan relates to the door and the correct size should be an 870 door.

Things can get confusing doesn't it? And when it does, the next best thing to do is to indulge in some retail therapy with the wife....we went back to Beacon Lighting to change a couple of lights which will now be...

That is such a clever design for the table - love that you can have people sitting at the ends without the feet getting in the way of the chair. It is a blessing in disguise that I don't live there I'd have been retail therapy'ing myself into bankruptcy by now hehe

That's why we bought this table ::lol::

, we been to almost every furniture shop including atHome, The General Store, Webbers, King Living, Nick Scali, Living Gallery and of course Ikea....It was an extensive exercise until we found this table online at GHIFY.com

Update: Bricks Day 14/15 - 27/28 April 2015

Over the weekend, we celebrated 4 weeks since bricks started. Bad weather delayed work for 4 days after Easter ::sad::

The brickies have been hard at work for approximately 2.5 weeks (counting working days only). In that span of time, they got heaps done.

Yesterday was a public holiday here in Perth, but we found the brickies had done a site clean of the internal areas that they had finished bricking! How hard working are they? ::cool::

Today quite a bit was done...we can finally start to see our garage taking shape! Common walls between the garage, laundry, scullery, study and hallway entry were partly built:

Congrats Hootie! Its looking great!! Love your brick! One of the houses in my estate is building with the same/very similar and it looks great! Was a tiny bit jealous haha

Had to talk myself out of visiting my block today. Cant go down tomorrow because im too busy but might see if i can squeeze a visit before i fly to Melbourne on Thursday. I really wanna see how much they have done by Thursday!

Question: How long before you got told who your SS is? I still havent been informed, was just curious

It's getting even more exciting now that the front is being worked on. We can't wait to see more of the front being built... ::lol::

Our builder is great in that they let you know who your SS is and give you his contact mobile number once the slab is down. In fact, the SS contacted me to introduce himself and pass us his contact.

My wife drops by often because we currently live about 7 mins from our site, so it's not inconvenient after picking the kids up from school. Besides, if she doesn't, she be bugged by the kids... ::lol::

Hope your build has much progress when you visit on Thursday. I hear on the telly that the rains will stay away till late arvo Thursday ::lol::

I fly out Thursday night so im hoping the rain isnt so bad that it effects the flight!

7 mins is definitely better than 25. But, im going to see if i can get all my work done in time and leave work 30mins earlier so i can get down there without dealing with peak hour

Fingers crossed there is a little more done!

Yeah, tell me about the peak hour, it takes me 50 mins or more to get from work to the site, and it's normally too dark these days for me to see anything when I get to the site

...That's why I rely on the wife for the photos taken in the arvo

Ah yes, by no means was it anyone's fault in regards to the bad weather except the weather gods...bad weather gods! ::lol::

The insulation sticking out is indeed funny! We went to site for one day when it was kinds windy and it was flapping around like no one's business ::hyst::

The brickies are starting to work on the front of the house and it is VERY exciting to see it slowly forming. We can now see the Study window frame, main door frame and part of the Theater window frame:
