Love reading about some of your WA quirks...soakwells, polony, now quokka? Lol DH is going on a business trip to Perth and we're trying to sweet talk the MIL into babysitting our tribe for a few days so I could tag along. Might have to add a trip to Rottnest and take a selfie ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 768Mar 13, 2015 7:29 am They are so cute I want one! I've never been to Rottnest, but I hope to go one day ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 769Mar 13, 2015 11:58 am I'll come with you Mal! I've wanted to go for ages but OH just isn't interested. Not sure if my avatar shows for everyone else or not (I can never see it) but he's a happy little Quokka! Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 770Mar 13, 2015 12:40 pm He's a cutie Nikkis! I think I've been ripped off, every time I've been to Rotto the quokkas have always seemed a little dazed and confused. Maybe now that they're getting selfies they're waking up! Also, got some great news today. Weather permitting, bricks should be delivered tomorrow, then frames on Tuesday. Brickwork to start some time next week after the team finishes their current job! It's getting real, folks! Now I need to stop faffing about and make some more decisions. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 771Mar 13, 2015 12:46 pm Geeze, we are putting in our own soakwells after the build and your pics make me second guess that idea, hope my partner knows what he is doing (he assures me he does...) Do you have a date for brickies? Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 772Mar 13, 2015 12:51 pm Yay Trixee, bricks, frames and brickwork starting, oh my! So excited for you ![]() and p.s. totally want to get in on this quokka selfie thing, how adorbs is that! Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 773Mar 13, 2015 12:56 pm ![]() Geeze, we are putting in our own soakwells after the build and your pics make me second guess that idea, hope my partner knows what he is doing (he assures me he does...) If he says he knows what he's doing, I'm sure he does. It doesn't look complicated, just messy. The main thing would be getting the pipes in the right place. We might also dig it up and have another look after handover, before we start landscaping, just to be sure... No actual date for brickies, as it will depend on when they finish the other job, but SS seems confident that it will be sometime next week. ![]() Yay Trixee, bricks, frames and brickwork starting, oh my! Do you have a date for brickies? We are doing ours as well using polypropylene ones as they are 65% more efficient than the concrete ones the builder offered. So exciting about the bricks trixee, bet you cannot wait to start seeing it take shape! Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 775Mar 13, 2015 1:11 pm We didn't get a choice in the type of soakwell. To be honest, seeing as I didn't know anything about them before, I would have just said "whatever"! I'm getting more excited by the minute, and also quietly freaking out about deciding on tapware! Oh, and the hot water system! argh! Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 776Mar 13, 2015 1:16 pm ![]() We didn't get a choice in the type of soakwell. Oh, and the hot water system! argh! trixee I knew zilch about them as well. Hubby is the one doing all the home work on them lol. No doubt your choices will be beautiful. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 777Mar 13, 2015 1:52 pm the good news about tapware and hot water system is if the build process is the same as ours, we have neither of those two things yet. So you have time to decide. But not too much time. My vote for HWS: Go hybrid hot water / PV system ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 778Mar 13, 2015 1:56 pm I'm considering that Yvonne! We've decided against gas-boosted hot water at any rate, and we're definitely getting PV panels anyway. I just need to research it more thoroughly, which I've been putting off! I've got a spreadsheet so far with names on it, that's about it. I'm finding it hard to figure out what to compare things on. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 779Mar 13, 2015 2:41 pm It is getting real trixee. Once those bricks start it'll start to fly i think. I thought tapware was a tough decision. Everything i thought i liked just from looking online i hated in person ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 780Mar 13, 2015 2:45 pm ![]() I'm considering that Yvonne! Capacity of HWS Boost requirements TCO (Total cost of ownership) based on a x year timeframe (for replacements etc) btw did you see the news about Tesla doing home battery technology?? Offgrid here I come (We already have a off grid holiday home which I LOVE so definitely keen to go offgrid electricity wise at the new house when we can afford PVs and more importantly batteries) 0 1080 We came across your post and it mirrors our situation. Have you progressed in the interim and would you have any advice for us? Thanks in advance! 40 23459 Hi Josh & Eve, thanks for the info, we have decided to play it safe and have 3 phase installed if it is available, would rather be safe than sorry. cheers, Lynne 12 5842 |
