Firstly, good news! Demolition has been approved! That was really quick, only 7 days, when the demo company was estimating 3 weeks. It's a relief to finally have something go our way.

Another bonus - the advice I'd received all seemed to indicate that the bank needed to get involved, as we still have a mortgage on the place. I kept hearing conflicting advice - yes, the bank own the mortgage so they need to know, on the other hand we have massive equity in the property.

So against my will I went to ask the bank. First, I emailed them through their special "Secure Mail". The response from the dills on the other end said to call Mortgage Services. I called Mortgage Services. The dill on the other end said no, you need to call Securities. I called Securities, they told me to go to the website and download an irrelevant form. I downloaded said irrelevant form, and got confused so I went into a branch. The lady at the desk told me I didn't have to do anything. I got her to double-check with the bank manager twice so it must be true. They were actually more concerned that I'd be refinancing and taking my mortgage elsewhere!

So overall, feeling pretty happy with the wins so far this week.

The banks are crazy. It's amazing that you have to have valid insurance on the property but they don't want to know if you demolish. I caught up on your blog and we used the same demo company. We were really pleased with their service, communication and end result. Good luck!

I'm from the U.S. One of my first projects to get done on my break from work is to complete and submit our citizenship applications! We've been here just over 4 years now so we can apply. Youngest son was born here so he's already got 2 passports Wonder if they'll have any slang expressions on the test?

I quite like 'moron' - it seems to go well with the new build journey!!

Tips on passing the 'Australian' test:
You know you will pass when:
You know that thongs are footwear.
You tease people you like unmercifully. You are very polite to those you don't.
You know what "girt by sea" means but can't remember all of the song.
You are very patriotic but hate to advertise the fact, it's a personal thing.
You have eaten flies (in fact nearly choked on them!)
You always agree with overseas visitors who believe that kangaroos hop down city streets
You call koalas "drop Bears" to frighten them!
You shorten long names and make short names longer...
