Gum-27.jpg But every photo looks different! viewtopic.php?t=72683 Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 504Jan 31, 2015 1:19 am Thats a hard one . I guess it depends what look your going for .safe I would ho black but . But I like the marri but I can see the yellow .and the other one I can see the pink . And I guess its how its layed on the day . I think the samples probley dont do the last two justice .and it could look totally different in a bigger area . Its a hard one Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 506Jan 31, 2015 1:22 am Yeah I've seen samples of all that look completely different to the other, so I'm guess was also wondering how much the stock depends on the supplier? viewtopic.php?t=72683 Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 508Jan 31, 2015 1:40 am He's undecided, apparently it's my decision (so he can blame me when it goes wrong I think! ![]() viewtopic.php?t=72683 Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 509Jan 31, 2015 1:44 am I am in favour of Spotted Gum. I lke the variation in colour and think it looks more fresh and modern. I will be having that in my house, just my 0.02 of course. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 510Jan 31, 2015 1:46 am I have got one of those men . But my partner is a type of person that chooses something and never looks back .even if he knows it was the wrong choice he will say it was the best choice .lol. good luck im crossing fingers you will decide on something . Oh I agree with aussie spotted gum does look modern .. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 511Jan 31, 2015 1:58 am I like both blackbutt and spotted gum. (Marri is a bit too rustic for me and I think is more difficult to colour match with.) W.A. blackbutt is quite different in colour to NSW blackbutt (I like the latter best). Best to contact a supplier and go see some floors laid with these options. Our probable supplier sent me lots of photos of their work on my request. Feature (knotty) vs. select grade can make quite a difference too, not to mention the finish!! http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 512Jan 31, 2015 2:13 am Wooden floors are such a hard decision and such a personal choice...can be tricky to get the right colour too with all the different varieties then you also need to choose furniture that matches etc! Good luck trixee ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 513Jan 31, 2015 6:18 am Let us know what you decide ![]() What are your other flooring choices? Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 514Jan 31, 2015 11:15 am Before we ended up going with porcelain tiles, NSW Blackbutt was our top choice. It's beautiful. But then again, pretty much any wood is. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 515Jan 31, 2015 1:22 pm I was absolutely having blackbutt before I considered practicality for our lifestyle! It is a lovely neutral wood. If you want a statement, then marri all the way, but not without seriously considering your furniture! In fact, I reckon that's the clincher trixee - what style of furniture and colours you intend having in your home. If you're having loads of white or black rather than wood then I think you can choose any of the wood flooring! The spotted gum looks divine with an all white kitchen! So, I hope I have not totally confused you now!! Hehehe!!!! ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 516Jan 31, 2015 3:52 pm Trixee, I am a fan of marri and one of the reasons is becos I have never seen it yellow. WA marri is usually a light to mid brown with the variation between boards. I don't know about ES marri?? the grey "veins" add to the 'cool' tone. Spotted gum can be used inside and out. It does need to be the star though, so works wonderfully with white or neutral tones. But as a general rule, I was told that light floors look better with darker wood furniture and darker floors with lighter...They tend to highlight each other. With blackbutt I only like it in feature grade otherwise it looks bland to me, much like bamboo. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 519Jan 31, 2015 5:44 pm Thanks everyone for your input! ![]() So, we just got back from Hombase Expo to have a look and now we're more confused! We've now added Brushbox to the mix, but have (mostly) eliminated Blackbutt because it's probably a bit too light for us. I'm not completely ruling it out though until I see more samples. The brushbox had an almost greyish brown undertone and some interesting graining, which I liked. I also saw a nice sample of marri that had a neutral, mid-brown colour. The spotted gum was nice but possibly too much variation in tone. Will the floor be the star? Hard to say, I think it will mostly be covered by furniture, so maybe not? I think I'm going to have to go to a proper flooring place and see what they've got. I went to a few a while ago, but does anyone have any recommendations? I agree I think it also can look a bit cheap and pine looking (just my opinion hope no one takes offence).. 0 1084 We came across your post and it mirrors our situation. Have you progressed in the interim and would you have any advice for us? Thanks in advance! 40 23472 Hi Josh & Eve, thanks for the info, we have decided to play it safe and have 3 phase installed if it is available, would rather be safe than sorry. cheers, Lynne 12 5842 |
