Yep ... and believe me, after spending four days on a ladder redoing our gutters and fascias ... yeah, pass. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 242Sep 19, 2014 4:32 pm ![]() Thanks Duke! I imagine zincalume is a cheaper material, but would probably work out more expensive due to labour. At one stage there was talk that zincalume was close to becoming more expensive than colourbond. Also some covenants won't let you put zincalume anywhere in it, so you'd have to paint it quick smart. I think I'd be tempted to get a colourbond colour that is close to what you really want, and then paint over it later. Since the colour is hopefully close to what you want, you won't need to rush and paint over it. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 243Sep 19, 2014 4:40 pm Thanks bpratt, we're likely to go the colourbond route rather than zincalume I think, sounds like too much trouble! Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 244Sep 19, 2014 6:56 pm Congrats on signing and celebrating! Did they give you an idea of when site works will begin? Well you know I'm a fan of the contrast. We've gone surfmist roof and fascia w monument gutters to match charcoal window frames. House will be white so we wanted to add some contrast where we could. Our downpipes will be painted same colour as render. However there is a spot where the pipe comes down one of our front veranda posts (which will be white) and the base of the post will be painted monument so the down pipe will be painted accordingly, so switching colours partway. No extra charge. The designer and prestart consultant pointed it out. I may not have even thought of it. Good luck w your colour selections. That was one of the tougher decisions we had to make about the house. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 245Sep 19, 2014 8:23 pm Thanks ardie! The builder needs to do about 5 weeks worth of work before they can start, but I believe the bigger stumbling block will be b planning as they wanted some changes made to the plan. My best estimate is still for November, but you never know with councils. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 246Sep 20, 2014 12:18 am ![]() I'd assume the same in terms of cost. Also need to factor in that you'll probably need to re-paint at some stage as I don't think a painted finish would outlast a colorbond finish. If you use oil based paint it will last. The thing is to prepare the surface properly especially if it has been powdercoated, you might have to sand the powercoat off, then add rust coating, then the oil paint. ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 247Sep 20, 2014 12:47 am Gosh trees, that sounds like way to much effort, would rather pay someone else to do it! ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 248Sep 20, 2014 12:51 am You got it in one ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 249Sep 27, 2014 2:58 pm Just checking in trixee. Regarding your downpipe dilemma, there are so many colours in the colorbond now it would be unlikely that you couldn't find a close match to your render. I personally wouldn't paint over colorbond- hard work with the possible need to repaint down the track. They will be the least of your worries once you get going. ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 250Sep 27, 2014 7:33 pm Thanks Rache. Yeah I think you're right, should be able to find a close enough match in colorbond. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 251Sep 27, 2014 7:37 pm In other news, demolition started yesterday! They sent in "the boys" to strip the house of any salvageable materials. I dropped in on my way to work in the morning to say hi. There were 4 cars (I think) parked in the driveway and on the verge. I spoke to "the boss", who was very pleasant and informative. He said they'd spend a couple of days stripping the house then the bulldozer would come in. Given the long weekend, I think the bulldozer will be in on Wednesday. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 252Sep 27, 2014 7:39 pm Drove past the house today and there are no doors or windows left, but didn't have time to stop. Will drop by tomorrow for a better look around. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 253Sep 27, 2014 7:44 pm That's great news Trixee. Yay for the start of destruction and construction!!!
