Have you used a clay brick and render or something else? We are looking into using styrofoam bricks if we can for insulation benefits. We just built with polystyrene wall panels (not bricks) and although it is great thermally there is a lot of considerations with that type of product regarding how things fix to it - was a bit of a nightmare for us at the time. Now there's something you tend not to think about! How did you solve it in the end? A lot of it wasn't actually solved as such, just bumbled through it as we went along. Some results we were happy with and others we weren't. At least we thought about major things that has to be fixed to the external walls or possible future fixtures eg pergola, so we ensured there was adequate bracing during the construction stage. We'd booked our appliances to get delivered tomorrow but good thing I checked with supervisor it was OK because apparently the painter is stuck in Bali and this has thrown out the schedule, so appliances are getting delivered *next* week. PCI might be a bit late but he thinks keys should still happen on time. On the plus side, our paving has been done! Read about it here: http://www.ecohomestyle.com.au/thermal-break-in-paving/ I have more exciting pics for you though - our glosswood has been done! (mostly. The still have to put the beading on the portico, but the rest is done). What else? Oh, I was able to finally take a photo of the back of the insulated garage door, this is what it looks like: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Yeah I know garage doors aren't particularly interesting, but I'm desperate here! Some of the door hardware has been installed. Still nothing completed yet though. Everything seems to be waiting on this painter who is stuck in Bali! Why can't they schedule their holidays in the middle of winter? Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1927Nov 10, 2015 11:34 pm Alfresco ceiling is very glam. Plus I didn't know you could insulate garage doors. The only garage door upgrade we were offered was to have a timber look garage door. I would have insulated it if I had known so hubby's man cave didn't end up quite so hot. It wouldn't be thermally broken but it should still help. There are a few different products on the market so have a look around. I liked the look of this one: http://www.thermadoor.com.au/ Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1935Nov 11, 2015 12:13 pm Ha, I probably posted my original reply on the wrong thread ![]() Thanks for that link trixee I will give it a go. The thermal break was something I'd forgotten about until Mr Trixee mentioned it. He's not entirely sure it's actually foam, but it sure seemed like it to me. I'll have to have another closer look tomorrow. ![]() Your portico and alfresco ceilings look incredible Trixee... you must be so happy! Paving looks great too...like the colour. I'm amazed that the colour of the paving suits the house so well, happy about that too. I was expecting it to be all rather blah, but it's perfectly fine! 0 1155 We came across your post and it mirrors our situation. Have you progressed in the interim and would you have any advice for us? Thanks in advance! 40 23796 Hi Josh & Eve, thanks for the info, we have decided to play it safe and have 3 phase installed if it is available, would rather be safe than sorry. cheers, Lynne 12 5888 |
