Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1701Sep 22, 2015 1:00 am I like that look of that channel. How far are you cabinets floating off the ground? I think we haven't left that gap large enough. (its only 180mm) Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1702Sep 22, 2015 1:18 am Thanks guys, one step closer! Does anyone know anything about painting or sealing the garage floor? On the wish list is those rubber garage floor tiles, like you see in the fancy display homes. Way down in the priority list though! ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1703Sep 22, 2015 3:54 am Trixee - that looks lovely and so smooth!! I'm still in love with the front door and the mini mirrors in them ![]() Perth_Euro I'd say that is at least 30cm? Is it too late for you to change? A normal tiled hob is usually 20cm I think - so the cabinets in my bathrooms are (or should be) 20cm high off the ground. I'm not too sure whether this includes or excludes the height of the floor tile yet to be laid. I think we haven't left that gap large enough. (its only 180mm) Thanks PE! I think the cabinet is 300mm off the ground, will check against the plans when I get a chance. Edited to add: Yep, the bathroom and powder room vanities as well as the coffee area are 300mm off the ground. The ensuite is slightly higher at 340mm. I *think* that takes into account the finished floor level, but I'm not certain yet. Will check tonight. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1706Sep 22, 2015 10:13 am ![]() I love that your vanity is floating. I wish ours were. They look super fancy ![]() Thanks cat! The original plans had a recessed hob for the ensuite vanity because the architect thought it was too long and might need the extra support, but the plumber ended up putting the pipes through the wall which allowed them to put in the floating vanity. Super pleased about that. ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1707Sep 22, 2015 10:15 am ![]() Trixee - that looks lovely and so smooth!! It's looking fantastic and I love you used concrete in the alfresco! Thanks Gypsy, don't get too excited by the alfresco though, we're planning on tiling over it ![]() Actually, we did consider using aggregate there but opted for tiles instead. To be done after handover. Still unsure if we want to bring the indoor tile out, or go for contrast. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1712Sep 22, 2015 9:34 pm Ok I am going to ask, at the risk of a stupid question. What does Grano mean? I realise it's to do with the concrete but can't figure it out. My build thread: Custom build on 40 acres viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75656 Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1713Sep 22, 2015 10:10 pm MnT, it took me a while as well! It's just concrete. According to this website, it's a specific type of concrete: http://www.pavingexpert.com/grano_01.htm I don't know how different it is to the concrete used in the slab though. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1715Sep 23, 2015 1:17 am Waiting on those tiling pics trixee.....!!!!! SO looking forward to seeing how it all looks together. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1716Sep 23, 2015 1:24 am Good point I wonder why it's called grano? I never thought of that till now! It looks good anyway! Looking forward to tile photos ![]() Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1717Sep 23, 2015 1:28 am You're gonna kill me Rache, I'm not posting any until the grouting's done! Mwahaha! Truth is, we can't get in after hours and it's a bit awkward taking photos while the tilers are still there. But I can say that I'm happy with the result so far - they've almost done the floors, and they've done the walls in the powder and laundry. There's an issue with the dishwasher not fitting in the kitchen cabinets, they won't be able to finish the kitchen until they sort that out. I'm also not happy about a skinny wall in the powder room, it's being worked around, I may not get my way but can still try. They're quite nervous about tackling what is now being referred to as "the evil tile" though, they'll be starting on that on Thursday. But according to Google, it's short for "Granolithic Concrete". Have you progressed in the interim and would you have any advice for us? Thanks in advance! 40 23541 Hi Josh & Eve, thanks for the info, we have decided to play it safe and have 3 phase installed if it is available, would rather be safe than sorry. cheers, Lynne 12 5853 |
