Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth - Facade 161Sep 08, 2014 11:36 pm We had a meeting with the builder today, upshot of which is they are going to draw up the contracts. Once this is done and we have signed, we will be dealing with the builder directly rather than through the architect. Which should hopefully result in less delays. So we have another flurry of activity where we have to make sure this is all good, and get the finance sorted. We also finally got our facade mockup back from the architect. Though they only sent one (we asked for two alternatives to be done, but apparently the computer was overheating so they could only manage to render one. Here it is: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ There are a couple of things not quite right, such as the front steps. The setback looks wrong, and they appear to have given us a glass front door. And they got the colour of the car wrong! *gasp*. But I think it looks ok, doesn’t look that awful at any rate. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 162Sep 09, 2014 12:19 am It looks better than ok trixee! I very much like the portico - something different ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 163Sep 09, 2014 12:39 am Very nice. Simple and unobtrusive. I'm always second-guessing decisions so it's nice to have some positive affirmation ![]() Asha - the other elevation was basically just testing out different colours, I wanted to try some contrasting feature colours on the pillars, gutters, and various other places. I guess I can use this pic and try to mock it up myself. HBTW - I kind of like the low-key aspect, as being on a busy road I don't want to draw too much attention to it as being flashy can risk attracting the eye of a burglar (or am I being too paranoid?). On the other hand, I also want it to be impressive, but I guess that will happen in the entry hall. ![]() Ardie - Thanks, despite the small boot I love my car, not looking forward to the day when I'll have to part with it. Will just have to cherish the time we have together. ![]() ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 166Sep 09, 2014 1:33 am I really like it too trixee. It looks really classy. Yes it's been a bit of a process, good to see things starting to move soon though. Hopefully it won't be too long before I have some actual photos to share! Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 178Sep 10, 2014 11:56 am Just as long as your kitchen doesn't have a drawer blocked by the fridge!!! I liked Dee's kitchen but I didn't love it. it was very Melbourne classic though, we have family in Toorak and I tell you, I have seen so many kitchens like that over there, it is a bit boring now. I love the mock-up of your frontage ... that is one striking portico. I really like it, it's inviting. And your guests will get a great surprise when they walk in and see the amazing layout and how much house there actually is. I hear you about break ins and making your house less attractive - we've never been broken into, but many friends have. But these are friends who have heaps of shrubs and trees or big walls out the front etc. We have a great front garden, but the house and all access points have clear view from the road. Oh and it helps that our dog's bark sounds worse than his bite! He can't be seen from the road but he can be heard!! Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 179Sep 10, 2014 12:15 pm Thanks Marcia! Our kitchen will actually be very different to dee's in that we want it to be a lot more modern rather than traditional. Glad you find the portico inviting, that was the intention ![]() The other issue with being on a busy road is noise and litter blowing in. The noise we can deal with through the house layout, but unfortunately the litter will keep blowing in unless we have something to stop it i.e. a wall. So we're going to have to have some fencing and gates, as I don't want to be picking up litter every day. I don't like the thought of a massive wall at the front however, and I would prefer the shrubbery to be more open than dense. So it's going to be tricky to balance it all I think. At this stage, we're leaning towards rendered brick pillar and post fence type thing with those aluminium slats, or maybe wrought iron infill. Have looked at some pictures but nothing is really grabbing me at the moment. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 180Sep 10, 2014 1:52 pm Got some fences on my pinterest board ... might not be what you are looking for tho! http://www.pinterest.com/everydaypretty ... e-outside/ 0 1085 We came across your post and it mirrors our situation. Have you progressed in the interim and would you have any advice for us? Thanks in advance! 40 23481 Hi Josh & Eve, thanks for the info, we have decided to play it safe and have 3 phase installed if it is available, would rather be safe than sorry. cheers, Lynne 12 5842 |
