He ended up giving us a tour of the workshop, the machinery and degree of computerisation is incredible! Can't wait to see your floor. Btw I believe the doors have to be hung before they are painted, don't ask me why though ![]() Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1530Aug 21, 2015 12:45 pm Wow, those floorboards will be beautiful. Our doors were spray painted the undercoat, then hung then final coats. My build thread: Custom build on 40 acres viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75656 Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1532Aug 22, 2015 1:07 am Thanks everyone! The floors will be laid on Monday, then will be trampled on while the cabinets go in, then will be sanded and polished. Can't wait to see it all laid out. I find it strange that they hang the doors before painting, maybe it's just easier to paint vertically? I suspect the undercoat was just sprayed on, maybe they can't spray gloss paint? I think you may be right. Your undercoat was definitely sprayed on, I can see the spray marks on the floor ![]() My build thread: Custom build on 40 acres viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75656 Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1536Aug 22, 2015 7:15 pm Spraying with gloss is fine (do it all the time on furniture). I think the problem is painting over the gloss. So maybe didnt want the overspray. Using my LG-G4 to bring you this update. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1537Aug 22, 2015 8:23 pm I asked my partner he said the reason they hang the doors first and then take them off to paint is they need to have the holes drilled etc before the paint is put on and if they were painted before hanging they would damage the paint whilst setting them up to hang so they do it all first then take them off to paint. They will also put the handles on before painting then strip them off again....hopefully I explained it right anyway haha apparently it makes it easier but sounds a lot of effort to me! How many rooms are going to have timber? Well, they're starting on Monday, I'd be surprised if it only took a day though. All up there are 5 rooms getting timber floors - 2 bedrooms, 2 studies, and the library. ![]() I asked my partner he said the reason they hang the doors first and then take them off to paint is they need to have the holes drilled etc before the paint is put on and if they were painted before hanging they would damage the paint whilst setting them up to hang so they do it all first then take them off to paint.
