Looking great Trixee. You've beaten the worst of the weather and the builder is moving at a good pace. Winning all round. What sort of time line are you looking at? In by October/November?

D_rail, you are correct, we're looking at October/November for handover. They've said 5th October, but they're already 2 weeks behind so who knows.

Question for those with islands with waterfall edges - what sort of profile did you go for? Did you get stung with a fee?

We have specced 40mm benchtops in the kitchen with waterfall to the island, which is included in the base cost, but when we asked for mitred fascia edges we got charged $1600 E/O for the privilege. Seems a bit high to me. I've yet to ring up about it, but would love to know what the alternatives are.

This is what they quoted: "Additional cost to change edge to 40mm Mitred Fascia no return to underside excluding island bench bar side"

I don't even know what that last part means!

We definitely paid more for our waterfall edges but the mitred edges were included in that cost. I don't know what that last part means either sorry!

Trixee is it 40mm benchtop or 20mm benchtop with 40mm fascia? If so the sentence might mean that on the breakfast bar side there'll be stone between the bottom of the fascia back towards the island cabinet backs, ie, there will be 40mm of stone in reality, but on the other side of the island there won't be - ie, 20mm top with 40mm fascia on the top, but on the sides which you'll be able to see the back of there will be 40mm again? Not sure only guessing!

OK I just spoke to the stone lady. It had to do with the benchtops other than the island, and referred to where the underside of the stone meets the cabinet carcass. So an additional bit of stone gets mitred to the edge to get that 40mm profile, but there's a bit of a gap where it meets the rest of the cabinet. I'm going in on Friday so they can show me what they're talking about. I feel a bit better about it now, but there may be cheaper options that will also look good that I can investigate.

yep - I think that is what I was trying to explain but obviously not very well hehe. If you had 40mm included then I don't think you should have to pay extra for it?

The problem is there is a variety of edge profiles to choose from, and it looks like I chose the most expensive one!

I chose Mitred Fascia, but depending on pricing and looks I might change it to Square with Pencil Round. Who knew it would make such a difference!
I've made an appointment to see them on Friday, so I'll find out then I guess.

Trixee - in our last place we had 40mm - square with pencil round profile. You could "just" see the join if you looked hard enough however i didnt dare complain as we only paid for 20mm and the stone mason stuffed up hehe.

Ooo I just remebered that youre having some sort of marble for your benchtops - in that case I would try to get the mitred edges otherwise that lovely veining will be chopped up and not look anywhere near as nice (I hope I am making sense).

No fear, we changed our minds on that one, and are only having marble on the splashback, so no need to worry about mitring

. I had a look at the mitred and square with pencil round edges - both where lovely but I quite liked the smoothness of the square with pencil round edge. Also, the pencil round edge still looked quite square to me - more so than it looks in that diagram I thought.

What bench top have you decided on Trixee? And what about cabinet finish and color? I get a bit excited about kitchens :-P

Hi admodra - I suspect we'll be changing our minds to the square with pencil round.

I'm always happy to talk about my finishes, there's only so much a person can take of talking to themselves

Colours and finishes are as follows:

Benchtops: Essastone Bone White
Splashback: Statuario chorica marble
Cabinets, overheads, kickboards: Cleaf Yosemite Nero - this is a matt finish timber veneer. There's a display at Home Base Expo, in the selections area.
