Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1202Jun 06, 2015 9:55 pm We'll have surfmist too - I really wanted a dark/black roof to start with but our development doesn't allow it. So embraced going light by going REALLY light and starting to grow on me seeing all the surfmist roofs going up - reckon it should help with heat in summer too ![]() Trixee, was that silver stuff below the colorbond an upgrade? Was it very expensive? Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1203Jun 07, 2015 12:15 am Trees - the render colour is dulux dieskau. Yeah it took me a while to figure out how to pronounce it too! Mal - I know what you mean, I'd prefer a dark tile roof, but like light is better for thermal reasons. So I decided that it's very Australian to have a white roof and ran with it too ![]() The silver stuff is anticon insulation and it did cost extra but I don't know how much because it was included in the base cost. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1204Jun 07, 2015 12:46 am Mal, we paid an extra 3 grand for ours as only batts were included. But with a raked ceiling it's a must... We probably got ripped off but it was worth it if you know what I mean... Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1205Jun 07, 2015 2:47 am Thanks trixee and trees - ok yes it makes sense that it would be a must for a raked ceiling. We have batts included I think. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1206Jun 07, 2015 8:24 am Our builder insisted on the anticon once we decided colorbond. It's too help condensation noise and insulation. We have batts too. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1207Jun 07, 2015 8:47 am Thanks Yvonne I'll ask - can't hurt to ask can it? ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1208Jun 07, 2015 3:41 pm Oh i do love a surfmist roof ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1209Jun 07, 2015 10:22 pm Colorbond looks great - what a difference the roof cover makes!!! Our build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77196 Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1210Jun 08, 2015 1:21 am Roof looks great Trixee. I'm sure it'll start looking lighter inside again once the ceilings and walls are done. Don't panic just yet!! Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1211Jun 08, 2015 2:03 am Thanks asha, smarthomesbuild, and nikki! I'm happy I have a roof ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1212Jun 08, 2015 7:02 pm ![]() Thanks Yvonne I'll ask - can't hurt to ask can it? ![]() Hey Mal I'm pretty sure it's on the list I sent you bcuz we added it too in addition to the batts. We also added insulation in the walls. Builder only includes whatever is needed to meet 6 star energy requirements. ![]() Thanks Yvonne I'll ask - can't hurt to ask can it? ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1213Jun 09, 2015 7:20 am ![]() Hey Mal I'm pretty sure it's on the list I sent you bcuz we added it too in addition to the batts. We also added insulation in the walls. Builder only includes whatever is needed to meet 6 star energy requirements. Thanks, ardie - I did have a look after posting that as I knew you'd have known about this! It is very expensive isn't it. A bit more than we can afford at this stage I think ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1214Jun 09, 2015 12:47 pm Although we paid extra for anticon, our wall insulation and batts were both included. It varies with each builder and what deals they can get I think! Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1215Jun 09, 2015 8:31 pm Hey trixee. I know you've been on the hunt for ceiling fans. We've been looking for a very large one for our living/dining area and I think we've decided finally. Just need to decide on colour combo. Anyway thought you might like it and it's one of the more affordable large wood fans I've come across http://www.myfan.com.au/ceiling-fans/spitfire/ Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1216Jun 09, 2015 8:37 pm Ooh, that looks really nice ardie, thanks for pointing it out! I'll need to investigate specs, but I like it so far. Looks a bit like the Big A$s Haiku fans, but better priced ![]() Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1217Jun 09, 2015 10:56 pm Exactly what we liked about it. I love the big a$$ fans but even on 'special' we just couldn't justify the cost but they're beautiful. This seems like a good compromise. There is a similar one at beacon but also a bit pricey. Though I haven't checked their eofys prices yet. Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1218Jun 10, 2015 12:48 pm Looks great trixee ![]() ![]() First Build, Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach. We have surfmist too for our garage door and main entry door (painted surfmist). After seeing the difference that roof cover makes to your house, we want our roof cover to start quickly ![]() Our Build Thread: The "Extended" Marina by Visionone Homes Our Inspirations: Frank Lloyd Wright | Houzz Re: Trixee's Passive Solar Build Perth 1220Jun 10, 2015 1:02 pm I have to admit it looks better than I thought it would with the roof on! I'm pleased with that, but a little concerned because there appears to be a bit of a wave in the sheeting at the front. The SS is aware and said he'll have a look. I also mentioned it to the architect and he said he'd have a look too. He said that it's typically caused by a warped beam, so that is either replaced or planed back. Apparently the short sheets are harder to do. 0 1169 We came across your post and it mirrors our situation. Have you progressed in the interim and would you have any advice for us? Thanks in advance! 40 23993 Hi Josh & Eve, thanks for the info, we have decided to play it safe and have 3 phase installed if it is available, would rather be safe than sorry. cheers, Lynne 12 5908 |
