Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 24, 2016 10:14 pm Hello All, I am looking to buy my first home in Sydney and wanted to seek some advise from the forum on the suburbs. I have a family with 2 kids in primary school - years 4 and 1. I have found a new home and land package in the new side of Glenfield, which interests me, but before I go ahead, I wanted to get some advise on the area in general. The main topics I need an opinion on is : safety/ crime rates, primary schools, high schools, community in general. I would appreciate, if somone who is currently building in Glenfield or already living/ lived in the area with young family can provide some guidance. Thanks for your time in advance. Cheers. Re: Glenfield NSW - Suburb Advise 4Sep 24, 2016 10:48 pm Hi Mcjus80, Thanks for your response! One factor to consider Glenfield was the connectivity/ travel time to the city. I havent looked at Oran Park or Catherine Park yet, but I believe they are atleast a good 20-25 mins further from Glenfield. My partner works at St Leonards, so that would be a very long commute and I was looking at options with good train connectivity. The home and land package I have been offerred is actually a split contract. The builder is producing a tender for me on the build cost at the moment. If I am happy with the build cost, then the builder would nominate me to the developer to buy the piece of land. I will be settling the land directly with the developer - ofcourse, I think the builder will have a margin in it. Once the land is settled, the builder would start building. But yes, I cant choose my builder and will have to lock in the builder before setting in on the land, which I feel a bit uncomfortable about. I havent been able to find any lands for sale in the Glenfield area though. I am still open for areas suggestions, but considering my kids and overall family situation, I am not thinking about the upcoming or developing areas, my preference would be to get into an established yet not very expensive suburb - does that make sense? I am looking for someone who might have tackled a similar issue as me. I have a few rendered interior walls, the surface condition is hardly flat.
