Take a look at the Cardinia plant guide to see what grows easily and also how far away the plants need to be from water pipes etc. http://www.cardinia.vic.gov.au/files/En ... _Guide.pdf As for the free plant days, I know they had free plants at the sustainability expo this year. I think you could probably call the council and get some more expo dates. I think there is one in Emerald as well. http://www.cardinia.vic.gov.au/Page/Pag ... ge_Id=1654 Thankfully we dont have any restrictions on gardens etc where we are. However at this stage a bit of guidance would be nice. Re: {dawn} Custom in S.E Melbourne - Countdown to Settlement 456Oct 18, 2015 11:04 am Yeah, I won't be able to do anything about an investment property for a few years but its fun to think about. We have a set list of plants we can have in the front yard, backyard is our own choice. The list has about 10 or so plants for each type, i.e. tree, shrub, flower, groundcover. Unfortunately I'm not a major fan of any of them. I would like to put in roses or camellias. I like flowers Cool, I'll keep an eye out for free plants. My mum has a heap of cuttings she's growing for me. I am thinking about getting a proper landscaping quote done, but I think it's going to cost a lot more than I am hoping for. I need to find a good landscaping company in Pakenham. Re: {dawn} Custom in S.E Melbourne - Countdown to Settlement 457Oct 21, 2015 5:31 pm So the landscaper gave me a call, they couldn't give me a quote given how far away the build is, but he did give me a ballpark figure of $15,000. This seems like a lot, but I know it's probably average. This is not looking into anything specific (i.e. materials, design, lay of the land). Just a rough quote based on size of the space and would look at both front and back yard and the sides. While I think it's probably a reasonable figure it is WAY outside my budget, so I will be doing landscaping myself at this stage (or maybe have people come in to do one off jobs rather than the whole space at once). Now I just need to track down quotes for fencing and blinds, maybe they will be more affordable. Re: {dawn} Custom in S.E Melbourne - Countdown to Settlement 458Oct 21, 2015 5:54 pm So..I thought I was super smart and got the dishwasher taken out of my build contract assuming I could buy a better brand cheaper and save some dollars. So I did a quick check online and at $680 installed the builder is really competitive!! The prices at the Good Guys start at $600. Will be asking the builder to sneak that back in Re: {dawn} Custom in S.E Melbourne - Countdown to Settlement 459Oct 24, 2015 6:00 pm Plans expected late next week Yipee. I added the dishwasher back into the quote, so that's one less thing to worry about. Waiting on a front fencing quote which should come in next week. Had an appointment with a curtain company today Was fun picking colours and styles, though I feel more confused then ever. The quote didn't include shutters for the master bedroom or bathroom. I'm expecting around $5k for just the curtains alone.. things are very quickly adding up! There are options of course, I could do ready made curtains for the two bedrooms and a ready made blind for the kitchen window, as I'm pretty sure these will be standard size. Re: {dawn} Custom in S.E Melbourne - Countdown to Settlement 460Oct 27, 2015 6:25 pm Window dressing has come in around 7k. Way too much! So I think I need to change my plans. Rather than going custom throughout, I'm thinking I could just put up ready made block out blinds in the two bedrooms and kitchen. Even for the lounge and dining I could put up some eyelet curtain tracks and just order a custom block out curtain with a longer drop. Its so easy to get carried away! I see something in a magazine, then I have to keep coming back down to earth because money doesn't grow on trees! Another thing I've been thinking about is cookware, I was researching the best on the market and I nearly bought a 4pce set for $600. Reflecting now, I'm thinking that's a bit crazy!! I'm not a professional cook, so why I do want some good quality I should be able to fit out my whole kitchen for $600.. not just 4 pots. Anyone else having trouble keeping themselves from getting carried away? I feel like I need to prepare for the move.. so I'm stocking up on things, replacing things, cleaning out old stuff. Even though its like 8 months away!! I'd get the gutters to match your roof and pipes to match the paint - otherwise they become a feature. Nice pick with the paint colours! 1 34273 6 55354 So it looks like we finally have some movement on site! Definitely later than expected, but I'll take any progress at this point. I'll drop by over the weekend to get… 5 27737 |
