Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 23, 2011 7:37 am Hubby & I have decided that we want to engage a company to do 2 or 3 independent inspections throughout our build just to make sure that everything is all ok. I have tried to search on this forum & opinions on 1 company keep appearing, but I wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with any other companies that conduct new build inspections (in Melbourne, specifically east / outer east). They conducted the Pre plaster stage and will be going on to do our PCI as well. Good Luck! Building The Amberlea 44 Fusion Home http://www.amberleadream.blogspot.com Land settled May 10!! Our report was almost a week later than we were told, although he did say that he was very busy and it wasn't so much that it was delayed but that we had to chase it up to finally get it that was disappointing. Nobody bothered to contact us and say it was going to be late or confirm when we could expect it, although they had happily taken payment in full the day after the inspection. There were things that we were told verbally were an issue which did not then appear on the official written report. We have tried to follow up on things like the above, but our inspector has not responded to email or returned phone calls. Seems like we have been a magnet for ** service right throughout our build Re: New build independent inspections 9May 25, 2011 7:09 am Here's a thread on some people's not-so-positive experience with Kevin McDonald and his company New Home Inspections http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=29027 Re: New build independent inspections 10May 25, 2011 7:37 am Thanks Jewelbaby for your honest account and zeitgeber for the link to the other comments. I must say Alex was very helpful; I called him a few times with questions before I booked him, there was no pressure to book. He called my SS direct and organised a time for the inspection (They like two weeks notice but I only had one, and from when I called he booked the inspection 2 days later) Very impressed with the flexibility there.. He emailed the report exactly when he said he would (The next business day around 7pm) I only booked him for the final inspection but if I could I would have done the frame as well.. I hope that helps you !! Re: New build independent inspections 12May 25, 2011 10:32 am Just had PCI and absolutly recommend our building inspector. His name is Phil Smallman and he works for Adapt Domestic Building Inspection Consultant. He was very professional, VERY thorough, Def knew his stuff and was so friendly to us. He explained everything to us and his report was fantastic. He even helps out with questions and after inspection support is greatly appreciated. I recommend him to anyone!!!!!!!!!!! We got him to do 4 all up. Pre slab, Frame, Lockup and Handover. He answered plenty of questions by phone/email in between inspections too. Great support.
