Browse Forums Building A New House Re: KDR - Coral Homes Daydream 28 - SW Sydney 41Sep 14, 2014 1:57 pm Well - our contract has been ordered We were not expecting that! The date in our tender (to avoid a price rise) to being works is/was January 5 but we're trying to push it back at least a month, I have no idea how we'll get council approval, demo, etc all done by Jan 5, it's less than four months from now, and we won't get the contract/plans for another 2-3 weeks. We did all the boring, small things today; which way the windows and doors will open, measurements for existing appliances etc etc. We also walked through one of the displays and had him point out all the upgrades. I was going to go with the 40mm ceaserstone in the kitchen, but we walked through a Metricon with a 20mm black benchtop (what I want) and I was quite happy with that so we're staying at 20mm. I also got the names of the tiles and carpet we liked in the display home - although we know the tiles are discontinued and of course the carpet (which has a much nicer name than the 'dirt colour' name I'd given it ) is a platinum range. We'll wait until we see Beaumont and Carpet Call before deciding what to do there. Neither of us know how we feel right now, we thought we'd have a bit longer to get things through and get our heads around it all. I guess we'd better get a few more demo quotes and start cleaning out our crap! Sounds like things are going to be pretty full on,for you over the next several months! As for the platinum carpet range,we upgrade all our bedrooms, the study, the activity room and media room and it was only an extra $1000, on 10mm underlay, fairly reasonable. Julie Re: KDR - Coral Homes Daydream 28 - SW Sydney - contract ord 43Sep 14, 2014 8:57 pm As jul33m1 mentioned, carpet upgrades are pretty well prices at Coral. Mine was more expensive - $1200 for platinum to all carpeted areas of the house (4 bed + flexi) and underlay was $400 odd extra as well (10mm). Highly recommend putting some money aside to upgrade it. The Bronze range (basic) is pretty terrible. Actually i would tell them to not put carpet down if i could only afford bronze. Save up whilst house is building any get something done after hand over, the bronze range is that bad. You might find a Gold range carpet that is similar. There is a lot of ranges to choose from. Sadly you need to wait until color selection to see what is on offer. Regarding the CS, we went with 40mm in the kitchen, but that was included as standard in the promo i picked up. I went with the wall-hanging vanities, but only in 20mm as i couldn't see a need for 40mm in bathrooms. Saved a bit of cash. Good luck with your demo. We will be getting the carpet and underlay upgrade, that price sounds pretty reasonable to me. We're trying to push the date back to early Feb so we can knock down in Jan, the sales consultant said it shouldn't be a problem. I feel like I've absorbed the information now and we'll have to start making an effort to get our belongings ready for the move. The kids will be thrilled to live with Nan and Pa over summer. I'm already sick of the paperwork though and we've barely gotten started. So many trees have been sacrificed for the paperwork alone of our house We're finally getting an idea of colours for the inside of the house though. Still no idea on what bricks we want. LOL Just stumbled across your thread and thought I'd comment as we are having some Blackett bricks too! We're going Gravel as our standard brick and Blackett for some feature brick in our alfresco area. Our standard option didn't include Blackett so we've only gone a partial upgrade. We too'd and fro'd a lot between various sandstocks and ended up with Blackett. There are some gorgeous bricks out there I'm sure you'll find one you like Re: KDR - Coral Homes Daydream 28 - SW Sydney 48Sep 15, 2014 4:01 pm jul33m1 It was great, the brick master went into detail about how they made the different bricks and told us to let others building that they could go to the factory( old Walgrove Rd,Horsley Park) and choose the batch/line that they wanted to use for their house and they happily reserve it for you. I would advise anyone building to go,as I said in my last post the colours vary greatly. There are 2 brick factories on that rd,the first is Austral, the 2nd is PGH and their fantastic there,it's like going on an excursion. oh wow! that is such an awesome idea and option! although I wonder if I would be able to tell if they gave me the batch I ordered anyway Re: KDR - Coral Homes Daydream 28 - SW Sydney - contract ord 49Sep 15, 2014 7:53 pm Hey Mellywil, just had a good read through your posts, sounds like you've got a busy year ahead, wow. Thought it was a pain starting from scratch, not sure how we would go if we were demolishing and then building. Can't wait to see the photos when you actually get started, not sure you're going to get too much done over the Christmas period though. Same deal with us on the tender, we were actually very happy when it came back, pretty close to what we expected, and we had messed around quite a bit with things, adding a whole different master, taking out all the appliances and buying our own etc. I would definitely query the retaining wall, they told us we would need one but I managed to talk them around and convince them we didn't and now we have the slab done we definitely didn't need one, just battered it and it is fine. Looking forward to seeing the demolition and the rebuild. We would hate to have to rent full time, if this is how people are treated,it's like one day we're upstanding members of society and the next day we're being treated like bludgers,it was a young girl who came to our home, she is obviously used to dealing with many different kinds of people, but she needs to learn that not everybody renting is the same. This is the first time that my husband and I have rented and thankfully the last, I can't wait for my beautiful Marcoola 32 to be built so that I can re-enter society. We had the new owner here Sunday night for a walk through and he was really happy with the way the house looks,I think the young girl from the Agents has a lot to learn,we will never use this real estate again for selling/ buying or renting. Julie Re: KDR - Coral Homes Daydream 28 - SW Sydney - contract ord 52Sep 18, 2014 9:25 am Hey Julie, that sucks with the RE agent She might just be a rude person all around though - my sister rents and her agent treats her great Some people have forgotten (or never learned) basic manners and politeness. How are things going with your build? We've contacted a few more demo companies for some quotes. My cousin's husband is a builder and he gave me a name of a guy he uses - I'm really hoping he comes back with a quote that's reasonable. I'd like to use somebody who was referred rather than some random. Haven't heard anything back yet about our contract or the other queries we had. I think I may have scared our SC. I had a loooong list of questions and a whole bunch of other stuff highlighted on the tender on Sunday but most of them were answered on the day. Mainly I'm just waiting on a quote for a deeper/longer bath, a skylight in the kitchen and the addition of a waste point in the laundry. We have to submit a form to council this week too, I guess I'd better get on that. Hehe, how funny, as I'm typing this I see that a demo quote has just been emailed to me! Must have picked up on my vibe! He's having nightmares and gets upset every time we talk about the new house and/or moving - to the point of tears. He's creature of habit and routine so we're hoping it's just the unknown that is worrying him. He LOVED going through the display homes and talking about 'his room' in the abstract, but it's all becoming a bit too real for him now. We asked him why he was so upset this morning and he said "Because I've been in this house FOREVER!" and teared up again. We've got just over three months before we move so hopefully we'll be able to calm him down with thoughts of decorating his new room with Man U posters or something...
