Thanks http://i739.photobucket.com/albums/xx39/sraj2219/House_Plan.jpg Re: Suggestions/opinions on new plan 3Jul 20, 2014 7:32 am which way is north? consider having windows/ sliding doors on this aspect as in winter the sun is lower in the sky and can penetrate and warm these areas but in summer, it is higher and they can be shaded by the eaves. makes a huge difference to having nice spaces or hot or cold spaces. also saves on power for heating.coolin Re: Suggestions/opinions on new plan 4Jul 20, 2014 11:13 pm Thanks Guys, With regards to furniture, planning on having the TV on the wall of Media/bed2. And the house is north to rear and is facing the south direction. Hope it will suit the plan. Anymore suggestions? Re: Suggestions/opinions on new plan 6Jul 23, 2014 2:58 pm For solar benefits, you want living areas towards the north, and bedrooms to the south. If possible, minimise western windows. Agree with kat, draw all your furniture as you'll have it so if the building 'flows'. Can you access the clothes line easily from the laundry? Do you want to be able to drive a car in to the back yard? Will you get cross-ventilation from prevailing breezes? Re: Suggestions/opinions on new plan 7Jul 23, 2014 4:49 pm An interesting plan, but as others have said, having north facing living areas will be much more comfortable to live in & will reduce energy bills. The alfresco shades much of the north aspect, meaning only the master will get warmed by northerly winter sun (nice but not necessary for bedrooms). The family room appears to be quite far from any natural light. As TinaG says, try to minimise W facing windows to reduce summer heat. None would be great, but very hard to achieve with todays long narrow blocks. Having utility rooms, bathrooms, & the laundry facing W helps block afternoon summer heat from the living & bedrooms. You're very lucky to have a nice north facing backyard, take advantage of it, & move the living areas to this aspect. 6 55346 Hi, Looking to add an ensuite to one of the bedrooms and make it a Master BR.
