Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 17, 2014 5:38 pm Hi All, We are glad to have our build just started but two weeks down and we are notified that we need some soil removed from the site as a result of the cut/fill of the block. Not sure of the exact costs yet but they are going to get the invoice for it. Is this usually an extra costs? as we already have costings for it in our tender worded: "provide site cut and export of as necessary fill to achieve approx. ......." - ~$8k ish Its annoying that an extra cost can just be added like that, is this even legal?? Re: Just started building and soil removal costs? 4Jul 20, 2014 7:46 pm that's cool. Our land is quite tight so probably nowhere to leave the dirt. I hope costs like this doesn't just pop up that easily.. Just have to pay up when the bill comes.. Re: Just started building and soil removal costs? 5Jul 21, 2014 10:53 pm Mine will range from 2.6k to 3.6k They cut 400mm at the front and filled 600mm at the back over 20.5m length. I'm expecting my invoice any time now.. (My block had no where to store the soil, so had to get them to do it.) I did ask for 5-tonne of soil to be left though for various things.. Re: Just started building and soil removal costs? 6Jul 22, 2014 7:46 am poohbear I hope costs like this doesn't just pop up that easily.. Most of the stuff they have only guessed at, and haven't costed exactly, are in those early stages where they haven't yet flattened the block or poured the slab. We also had a bit of extra concrete, for the slab, which hadn't been in the allowance (only about $500 or so, but money is money). The only extra costs we've had since then (we're nearly finished) have been when we've added things as we've had things built; eg. we've got two garage doors, because the 2nd one is for a workshop/shed I hadn't originally had an electric door-opener added, but because it's such a heavy door they suggested maybe we would want an electric door opener. So only nice-to-have stuff like that. PM me your email. I have a build excavation calculator you can use based on your plans to double check what your builder is telling you. Cheers Simeon 1 10244 I am not sure whether Perth has its own way of doing things in regards to this.
