Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 11, 2014 12:30 pm Hello, I've been looking at apartments in Sydney's inner west (I've been renting there for a few years) but I've been considering moving out a bit further so I can actually have a back yard before I'm too old to appreciate it. The extra travel doesn't really bother me, but all the new homes people are building just look so effing boring. Same-same cookie cutters. They look like the houses from The Sims. My GF is a graphic designer so it's been pretty hard to convince her on the move on this basis as it is. As much as I'd like to pay an architect to design something spectacular we just don't have the budget for it. Are there any builders out there that offer something that actually looks like it was designed by someone without glaucoma? Just something a little interesting that won't look like every other house in the street. Thanks! Re: Options instead of boring display homes 2Nov 11, 2014 12:52 pm Just convince her it`s a blank canvas that can be improved upon, considering minor changes to a façade can have dramatic results and same with interior paint and décor (as she should be well aware of!) if she still isn't interested, find somebody who is more flexible or convince her you cant have champagne on a beer budget! Re: Options instead of boring display homes 3Nov 11, 2014 2:04 pm Finding a new GF is probably off the cards at this stage Steevo. I get what you mean with the interior, but it's the facades of the houses that turn me off. Most of them that I've seen look like they'd need more than a few minor changes. Am I missing something here? Re: Options instead of boring display homes 4Nov 11, 2014 2:25 pm I understand mate! , really, the same basic layout/ floorplan can have a vastly different façade design depending on window size, type and location, roof pitches, gables, pillars etc, also materials used, such as hebel, weatherboard, render or stone are all options to spruce it up and change the look from the cookie cutter norm AFAIK, flashing is a minimum standard.
