Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Metro Property Development SA 24May 01, 2020 11:38 am Alex1987 Hi everyone, My wife and I are looking to potentially sign on with Metro homes. From what I have read here the main issues seem to be the structural warranty and maintenance after completion. Judging by the dates above, I would assume these builds have been completed. Are there any updates on how everything went in the end with Metro? They have the design we want and we dont have the coin to go custom building things and they have been competitive so far and very helpful (note: not signed a contract yet!!!) Cheers Hello, my experience was pretty bad with metro. Sales people are lovely but after sales is terrible. They will try and get out of fixing where possible, so take your time on inspection and get them to fix everything before handing over the final payment. That way they will do it quicker, otherwise you may wait a while. It took close to a 12 month build for a single story. The house is only as good as your site manager, so hope you get a good one. Below I have listed some of our issues: -We had a strip drain on the driveway not connected to any pipes /plumbing, was told it would be fixed but instead of fixing it properly, they just added two individual drains right next to the strip drain and the strip drain was still not connected to any pipes. -All downpipes had multiple pieces joined instead of one piece which they should be, they all had to be replaced. -laundry tap leaking -shower leaked from under shower screen as not siliconed / sealed -Found 32 roof screws in our gutters, make sure you check. -Water not draining away in roof gutters as the lean was incorrect. -Tiling is pretty shocking and bathroom had to be fixed twice and is still average. Many tiles have scratches and grout has little holes everywhere. Also missed a section of tiling now the tiling looks like patch work. -bath had a manufacturer sticker in plughole and was visible, instead of taking off the sticker they just siliconed over it when sealing the plug hole. Looked terrible -scratches in the bath -Man hole was put in wrong spot (you had to be very flexible to get into roof as it was squishing against the roof beams) so they had to move it and patch our roof. -missing wood piece holding eaves in roof -Painter missed about 4 walls which had undercoat only. Check above each door as they often miss painting them too. -paint on window frames and drips of paint on walls -paint overspray from the next door neighbours build (by Metro) which covered our windows, window frames, roof and gutters. Was obviously a windy day -Exposed screws in ceiling -A lot of holes in walls which were patched up but still very obvious. -Laundry pipes in wrong spot. -All top kitchen cupboards had handles where we selected push to open doors with no handles -Toilet bowl had a fine crack -Fly screen had a tear in it -Outside drains are on highest point where water doesn't drain away properly. -Overflow relief gully was lower than the paving which is not appropriate -water pooling against house as paving not done correctly -Kitchen cupboards crooked in alcove -beading around floorboards lifting in areas -fence had lots of scratches and concrete splatters so they had to be replaced -instead of a full fence sheet, they added an extra piece at the bottom -the wrong door was put on the toilet door (had to be the easy lift off for emergency purposes) -front door handle had massive scratches on it (we upgraded to an expensive style) so they had to replace it As you can see, our experience was far from perfect, and that's not everything we went through, we could write a novel. We felt the trades lacked attention to detail and the ability to say when something wasn't right, like missing wood pieces on eaves when they would have seen it missing when painting or the sticker in plug hole. It's like "not my problem" sort of attitude. Very basic issues that could have been avoided. The site manager lacked the ability to observe when things weren't right. We shouldn't have been the ones to pick all these issues up as that is why they have site managers. We were just unlucky I guess. We caught the Metro Trades that where working on the house next door using our power to charge power tools and listening to music and even trespassing to use our water when we were already living in house. Very disrespectful especially when each house requires their own power and water but the trades were too lazy to walk an extra few meters. Given everything we went through with Metro, we probably would never build again but if we had to, we would definitely steer clear of Metro property. Worst experience ever. Good luck with your build. Keen to hear from people in the area who have got KDRB done on whom they got the build from? Looking for recommendations. Thanks 0 21099 Hi, does anyone have a clue how the Brisbane Development website work in terms of how uptodate the dates on it are (developmenti.brisbane.qld.gov.au). I transfered… 0 4638 Yeah I don't know why I came to a forum. Place is full of wierdos/pedos thought internet may help but I suppose I'll try my luck with someone in person. Cheers. I tried… 0 6442 |
