Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 07, 2014 6:53 pm Hi - My first forum ever. Building a new home all by myself so will be needing lots of help and advise I have purchased a block outright 3 weeks ago and just waiting on Land office to send me my titles. I signed with Redink homes 2 weeks ago. I have been told that it will take 8 weeks to get my building contract. Is this the norm? Having never had any input in building a house this is all new to me. My consultant was very experienced and had excellent customer service. He helped me design my dream home. I am not in a hurry but have been told that I should have the house in 12 months. Very excited and cannot wait till pre start. From what i am reading on here it looks like i should put some $$$ aside for upgrades? I have added about $35,000 to the base price of my home and have included everything that i could think of. I will post my plans as soon as i have received them. I look forward to all the advise i get on here. Stay tuned. Block: Purchased and settled 30 June 2014 Redink PCQ: Signed 28th June 2014 Re: RedInk Home SOR first time building on my own 2Jul 09, 2014 5:21 pm Hi, and welcome to the forums - we will also be building with redink, and have signed our PCQ on the 4th of July so it will be interesting to compare our progress. Were told 10 - 12 weeks so we'll see which is true! Which base plan is your home based on? There are many RedInkers on here so you'll get lots of helpful info they're a friendly bunch Re: RedInk Home SOR first time building on my own 3Jul 09, 2014 11:27 pm Thanks for your message MalSannie. I am building the Delta. Made a few changes to the plan and love it. I don't need a study, so i cut it in half and added a scullery (butlers kitchen) in one half and the other half is a storage room for my shoes and bags. As soon as i get my plans I will add a picture. My consultant liked my idea of the store room and scullery the he is now incorporating into his designs. I will be following your build. New to this site so still have to figure out how to do things. Cheers Re: RedInk Home SOR first time building on my own 4Jul 10, 2014 5:05 am I love the idea of a scullery/butcher's pantry we'll have one too - and you can never have enough storage - especially for shoes and bags Re: RedInk Home SOR first time building on my own 5Jul 10, 2014 5:38 am also checkout the things you forgot thread for helpful advice viewtopic.php?f=31&t=5823 and congrats on the start of your new home Re: RedInk Home SOR first time building on my own 6Jul 10, 2014 10:42 pm Congratulations on signing with Redink Andreabw, and welcome to the forum. We are building with Redink in Helena Valley, and are at plate height, waiting for our roof to start. Homeone is an invaluable source of information, and just a great place to come to share your highs and lows. Everyone on here are so helpful and friendly. As MalSannie said, all of the Redinker's are extremely awesome, and we're all only too happy to help with any questions you might have. Can't wait to see you plans. Re: RedInk Home SOR first time building on my own 7Jul 11, 2014 4:39 pm Hi Andrea! I'm also building on my own with redink and sor, up to prestart now. Just wanted to say the forum is great for getting ideas and other opinions when your friends/families eyes start to glaze over when you try to discuss the merits of having your sink at the left hand or right hand end of the bench Re: RedInk Home SOR first time building on my own 8Jul 11, 2014 5:42 pm Hi Andrea. Welcome to the forum! Congrats on your land and signing with redink. They've been great to work with though a bit slow for my liking:) Looked up the delta and it's a great looking plan. Love your butlers pantry idea. You won't regret it. Any redink questions just ask away. Good luck. Do you not have any drawings of your plan changes? Us picture hungry lot don't mind a few faults lol. Hope to see some pics soon - and that everything keeps going smoothly Re: RedInk Home SOR first time building on my own 12Aug 25, 2014 1:15 pm Glad things are moving along for you. Any pre pre-start questions go ahead and ask. I have pages and pages of costings Re: RedInk Home SOR first time building on my own 13Sep 29, 2014 7:40 pm Hi all. Well I have finally received my file from RI. Really excited but just don't know where to start. I have to have all my choices ready for pre-start?? I have my colour coordination but can't wait to see my choices. I have been wanting a back colour bond roof but have been told it will be too hot. What do you all think. I also wanted a red feature rendered wall (only a small wall). I want a black front door but think the warranty is voided if i do that. - i am so confused:-) anyway i am enjoying reading about everyones experiences. Re: RedInk Home SOR first time building on my own 14Sep 29, 2014 8:23 pm Yay for receiving the file. It is all very overwhelming. I didn't think Redink gave too much guidance through the prestart process. The design consultation was absolutely priceless. Yes, a black roof will be very hot. Any dark colour will be actually, but I guess it all boils down to your personal preferences and comfort level. We chose a bright red front door and I do recall being told that our warranty was voided. But we really wanted it and decided we would live with the consequences Our exterior is a white w/black and red scheme now that I think about it I'm excited to see how it takes shape and if it's as I envision in my head. We chose surfmist colorbond for roof, fascia and garage door, colorbond monument for gutters and painted colour at the base of our front veranda posts, charcoal colour window frames, solver designer white for the render and veranda posts and solver deep valentine for the front door. Our interior designer helped us pick the colours after we showed her a bunch of pictures of other houses we liked. Good luck! Re: RedInk Home SOR first time building on my own 15Sep 30, 2014 2:21 am HI Andrea I'm with you - just as confused Although everyone on here has been super helpful and ardie especially has been very generous with her knowledge! I'm confused - why would a warranty be voided by a red or black door?? How odd! Re: RedInk Home SOR first time building on my own 16Sep 30, 2014 5:50 pm If you're in a warm climate it's probably not a great idea to have a dark roof. Sustainable building will advocate a light colour roof. There is plenty online about it. Here is an article I liked that I found. http://www.abc.net.au/environment/artic ... 661663.htm Re: RedInk Home SOR first time building on my own 18Oct 09, 2014 11:43 pm Thanks everyone for your advice. I have been and looked at tiles and Formica for Benchtops and cupboards. I opted not to have the stone bench tops as i wanted more of a colour choice. Not going the black roof. Probably going a dark grey with black gutters. Garage door colour will be the same as the roof and still getting the black door. I could great tiles for my kitchen. When i get sample i will put pictures up. Very exciting. Re: RedInk Home SOR first time building on my own 19Oct 09, 2014 11:48 pm Question guys: I have to get a temporary water and synergy account number??? Is this going to cost me much to do this. Do i just contact Water Corp and Synergy. Does RedInk sent the building plans to Water corp? Any advise re this issue will really help. thanks in advance. Andrea Re: RedInk Home SOR first time building on my own 20Oct 10, 2014 11:10 am Hey Andrea just call the 2 utility companies and they'll set you up, very easy. If I recall correctly there's a new account fee, but standard cost of setting up a new account, nothing extra for the temp account. Don't think it's too expensive. I think the warranty issue with dark door is because heat on the dark colour could warp it or something. We really wanted red so kept it too. Your colour scheme sounds lovely. Look forward to seeing your interior choices too. So it looks like we finally have some movement on site! Definitely later than expected, but I'll take any progress at this point. I'll drop by over the weekend to get… 5 27749 Can anyone give me any onfo on New Homes WA? Good or bad, hopefully good just need to know if my choice was good or not? Thanks ❤️ 0 8950 Hi Mofflepop, I would recommend finding a building designer to prepare plans, they should design to your specified budget. The benefit is you can tender the project out… 9 20434 |
