Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Dale Alcock | The Stoneleigh @ The Vines | Moved In! 142Jul 23, 2015 10:39 am Thanks everyone D_rail Looking great, we'll be copying that outdoor look! Out of interest, did you have drop footings done for your decking? We didn't. I'm not sure why; I think maybe DAH told us we'd be better off doing it ourselves? Anyway, we have a family member who's a chippy (he did our roof carpentry by coincidence) and he's offered to help (do) the decking. I'm very appreciative because I have no idea what I'm doing, and it'll save us a bucket load. Currently I'm trying to source some Merbau at 1.8, 4.2 and 5.1m lengths. It's not the easiest task! It seems to come in 'random lengths' which I don't want. We'll be dropping a bag of concrete in to each stirrup hole thingy. We were told that if we wanted a deck it had to be done at the time of the build. The cost was obscene without even considering the decking. It will look great in your area and what a bonus with the family help. We miss out there but have an electrician in the family! Re: Dale Alcock | The Stoneleigh @ The Vines | Moved In! 146Jul 23, 2015 11:53 pm solrak Bet your garage is a full as ours at the moment! Well we can fit two cars in there but it's hard to open the doors! We also have two bedrooms full of crap. D_rail We were told that if we wanted a deck it had to be done at the time of the build. The cost was obscene without even considering the decking. That's interesting. Is that a warranty thing? Our SS told me the ground had been sprayed so it would be fine in terms of termites, but we don't have that in writing. Should I be worried? D_rail what a bonus with the family help. We miss out there but have an electrician in the family! Definitely. I wouldn't be doing it if I had to pay for a full install, that's for sure. We have a sparky in the family, but we still have a GPO in our other house that he started to install many years ago but never finished. He had good intentions but now we just pay people to complete a job! Re: Dale Alcock | The Stoneleigh @ The Vines | Moved In! 147Jul 26, 2015 11:50 pm Love the fresh look of your home.
